Hi,

Recently got a msi p67a-c43 with a 2500k and I think I'm having a mobo temp sensor fault at hand.

You see, the cpu temps in bios are very high - just after turning the pc on the reported cpu temp is about 60 celsius, so I ran cpuid hwmonitor to learn the cpu temps are about 37 at idle and about 77-79 after stressing the cpu with Cpu-z for few to ten minutes. The thing reporting overheating is actually in the mobo section under tmpin1 which reports about 130-140 celsius after stressing.

I encounter no throttling or other overheating issues whatsoever. Even cpu fan is spinning nice and quiet.

Anyone stumbled upon a simmilar issue?

Can this in fact be a defective temp sensor within the motherboard?

Just learned my buddy wants to sell a mobo + i5 2500K + 16 GB DDR3 for around 100 dollars. Should I get it as a replacement for my athlon 2? How much better would that one be?

Hey, over the years I've collected a nice pile of still working parts and since my not so rich friend moans about not having money to buy a generation old console, I figured I'll build a gaming PC that'll (hopefully) go head to head with the 360 or maybe better.

I got:

- Intel Pentium D 945 3.4 ghz or AMD Athlon 64 6000+ 3.0 ghz

- 2x2 GB DDR2 sticks

- 320 GB HDD

- HD 5770 1 GB

Will the computer built with any of these CPUs be capable at running 360/ps3 gen games @ 720p or higher? I know my old 5770 will do the trick but I never used these CPU's for gaming.

Any small form factor PSU and case I can get to make this build livingroom friendly?

I think I should wait then. My old 4 cored athlon 2 while overclocked to 3.3 ghz gives me gameplay close to the i3 4130 config shown on digital foundry's YT channel performance wise, with a couple of frames dropped here and there. I guess I'll stick with what I got for the time being. How long do You think the GTX 750 ti is gonna stay relevant? So far it's holding it's own way better than I thought it would. Plays everything on medium-high settings at 900p quite nicely.

Thanks for Your replies. I scouted around and found some good deals on AMD A8 6600k 3.9 ghz based on the fm2 socket. Is the AMD A Series worth taking a look into?

After over six years of using my trusty athlon 2 x4 640, 4 GB DDR3 and a HD5770, seeing recent games really struggle to run at low settings at 720p I decided to upgrade.

Since I'm a young daddy and I just bought a house, I'm on a tight budget. I got myself 2 sticks of 4GB Goodram and a 750 ti 2GB.

Trying out my upgraded hardware I came to realisation that most modern games run basically the same 25-35 fps regardless of the resolution or settings (battlefield 1, farcry 4, assassins creed syndicate, dying light, evil within) so I figured the CPU is causing a bottleneck. I OC'ed it to 3.3Ghz with additional 0,25 v stable and all demanding games now run at close to constant 30 fps or better on medium high at 900p. Is it worth to push it further? What is the cheapest/ budget CPU-MOBO combo I can get to actually bring some noticeable bump in performance? Would a FX 4320 at 4,2 ghz be a good replacement in the long run?

That's good to hear. I was wondering what should I upgrade next, now I know - the 5770's gotta go :)

Aiming for stable frame rates (I really hate performance dipping) - should the 750 allow me to play Witcher 3, Watchdogs or Assassin's Creed Unity at 1080p while maintaining solid 30 frames with my current setup? I mean the Athlon II X4 640 with 6GB of RAM.
