Now that the PS4 is out, what is a realistic timetable for the PS3 to ride off in to the proverbial sunset? Logic tells me I have at least 5 years to decide whether to make the leap to PS4, given the PS3 and PS2's concurrent run. Alas, I've been hearing rumblings that the PS3 will be phasing out sooner that I anticipated (2-3 years) and I feel as of the PS3 still has a lot to offer.

I never buy consoles on launch, it took me 4 (from launch date) years to finally get a PS3 because of all of the issues I was hearing. I guess, to reiterate, I'm wondering if I'll have that same waiting cushion...

Thanks in advance for the answers!

@Grieverr: Ah ok. I wasn't that clear on the size of the installs. Knack is 40gb? Good grief...I guess you do need more space :/

Sign of the times...

Seriously? Complaining about 400+ GB on a HDD? What the heck are you storing on the thing for that not to be enough??

How about 2D games? Terraria could definitely run on that machine.

I have an Alienware 18. I love the chassis and the weight (or lack thereof). 32gb of RAM, 750GB of HDD space (with 1TB portable), and an HDMI-Input slot (for my PS3...I like switching from PC to PS3 by just pressing a button). Pretty good setup. Pics coming tomorrow....

For me, I buy systems for the long run. Launch titles are a bit irrelevant to me, though I was honestly surprised at the lukewarm reception of Killzone. I like waiting a couple of years for libraries to build and glitches to be worked out before I drop $500+ on a setup.

Update worked fine for me. I have a 120gb slim. A couple of friends of mine have the thick PS3's and it bricked on theirs. It may be something going on with the older models :/

I never buy consoles when they first drop. I like to wait until it goes through a couple of years of working out the issues. This whole freak out over the PS4's bricking isn't a surprise. Wierd glitches, hardware mishaps, and software bugs happen to new tech. Even at E3, the PS4 froze with the demo for Destiny was being played.
