every Sony brand product was DOWN and DOWN a lot over the same period last year. In fact ONLY Sony brands were down this years numbers. Who's betting Gamespot fail to mention any of those things? Fail to mention nearly 3MILLION consoles were bought this month in USA alone and not one of them was a PS3. Fail to mention that the 360 has in the past 2 months in USA alone sold over 1.3m units and now has OVER a 7m gap on the PS3. I bt Gamespot don't mention one of those things, but funny they will mention EA shares took a beating but wont mention Sony's shares have dropped to a 20 year low. Funny that isn't it?

From that link... "In order to stay competitive in the accelerating global network environment, we will always carefully review and make structural changes, if necessary, in order to further expand and strengthen the PlayStation business around the world," said Sony Computer Entertainment in a statement. Sony said today that its electronics division has been affected by the current economic downturn, and it plans to downsize or withdraw from "unprofitable or non-core businesses." which means from a ps3 standpoint not to much is going to change and anything that does will be to better sonyOfficerLeach

Basically it is like a buisness swerve ball, the calm before the storm if you will. They make it sound like it is an important sector so by saying that will again keep shareholders from further pressing the panic button. If they came out and said "yeah were sacking people and the PlayStation brand which lost us £3Billion in 3 years is going to change" people will press the panic button which will just mean more and more people will have to go. The key point to that which shows that it is under review is the part about "profitable buisness", Sony Gaming Division is not profit making it is running at a severe loss. We can now expect to see projects be cancelled, well more being cancelled as they have already cancelled a few this year.

The link was just a quick response to try and stop the shares diving even further, it is expected. Now a few hours have passed Sony have CONFIRMED that the PlayStation sector is under REVIEW http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/playstation-division-under-review-as-part-of-corporate-changes It is like what the expert guy says ""Sony doesn't have any core businesses that generate stable profits - the next thing we want to see is what is going to be the business that will drive the company." If the whole of the games division is losing money then they will have to try and stop it losing money. They are a buisness and thus must work as one. If they intend to say fully go into being a games console maker and drop the other sectors could risk financial meltdown for the company. Having your profits drop by 76% in just 6 months is going to hurt you.

I find it quite laughable people think this wont effect the games division.

Sony profits plunged by 76% this year and it's shares have fallen to a 16 year low, which has fallen even further in the past month.

The games division as a WHOLE made only a 10% profit increase from last year. With the sales this month for November about to be released expect shares to plunge even further. The fact of the matter is 8000 people will be removed and a lot of them will have to be from the games division simply because Sony makes tv's 1st games last. Overall the PS3 is losing a lot of money and they won't be able to sustain those losses, no company can. 10% profits will not keep Sony afloat.

GranReyUno

Why would Sony cut back on the one division that is making them a profit? The Movie and Gaming division is what helping Sony and I doubt that Sony would keep resources in a area that is losing them money just to remove resources from one that is profitable. There is a recession and many companies have to cutback. Though it look bad this have to be done to keep the company from riding in a ditch. Once things pick back up you will see those 16,000 jobs picked back up. Hell when my job lost an account we laid off almost half the staff because it was slow and 3 weeks later when tripled it because we occurred a bigger client. This is jsut the way of business. There will be downs and ups.

Because even though it made 10% profits it still has cost Sony over $3Billion

http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/96355

And even though the division increased sales by 10% it still was a loss of $305m! The games divison is not making Sony money it is losing it money just the amount it is losing it is decreasing each year. As i said before the games division will be hit and be hit hard. Losing $300m a year will effect the rest of the company and it looks as though it is starting to show. With ALL Sony gaming division devices selling LESS then this time last year means their projected 10% for Q4 will be a lot less. Again as soon as NPD figures come out and the numbers for ALL Sony gaming machines are down will just plunge the shares even further. I am willing to bet right now that if 16000 people are fired they will cut back the games division before they cut back on their bread and butter sections i.e TV.

Word around the campfire is gamespot moderators have been told to on purpose to break the first amendment and delete/suspend/ban any user that talks about the corruption allegation. Trying to silence the users is a very serious allegation and at this momment a few websites depending on the mods who have come forward and confessed to being asked to intentially break the law are preparing to run the story.

Has anyone here felt they have been delt with is a unfair/bad way by thr mods over this corruption allegation?

wrlyy

The hell are you talking about? Yeah, we're being silenced in this 400 page thread.

I think they just don't want their forums filled with topics like "woah, Jeff was fired."

No thats not the question, the question is "Has anyone felt they have been treated unfairly for expressing support/anger over this allegation?" this means have you had a relativly normal post deleted, have you been suspended for showing your dissapointment? have you been banned for questioning the policy of cash for reviews at gamespot and so on...

Having a thread in one corner of the website is fine, have to remember gamespot is a buisness and must adhere to the consumers act, this means if you mention it elsewhere how have you been treated.

Only if they experience those bugs. Otherwise how would they know about them?LordAndrew

well maybe they should run them on various pc's and see if they get any? The Crysis/Assasins Creed forums is full to the brim of people complaining about bugs, if you play a pc game and not experience any bugs especially in Crysis then you must have been lucky. Its the same with Assasins Creed, the game has lots of obvious problems but its ignored. They should get 3 or 4 people to review the game and get a average score and base the review on the collective experience. Because if the review is based on wether they got a bug or not then thats a bit unfair. Majority of games ive played on consoles have been fine, majority of games ive played on pc have been okay but few problems here or there.
