If it's an nvidia conspiracy, then how come it's not posted on nvidia's website? It seems to me that they would want to broadcast this far and wide. I really doubt that Origin PC is so popular that it would help Nvidias bottom line or hurt AMD's. I really think that they just analyzed what systems were being returned and which ones had no or good customer reviews and found a disproportionate amount of AMD machines in the former category. I don't see that as anything less than a reflection of reality. It makes a lot more sense than nvidia paying them not to sell their competitions chips. So, someone here is going to have to provide some proof other than, "oh, I never had a problem with AMD cards." That's not even circumstantial evidence. I really think you guys overdosed on the red pill causing you to see things that aren't there.jcknapier711

Because if Nvidia cameout and said something like that, it would be considered slander/defamation and they would be liable in court.

The fact of the matter is, these botique builders constantly switch out brands, never once have I seen them make a press release about it.
Nor do the statements/comments made by the CEO seem to be anything but doublespeak.
It also lines up with them getting to be one of the 4 builders to offer battleboxes.

Edit- Charlie provides more than enough evidence.

They say the proof is in the pudding..

Sure, there could be a big deal between Nvidia and Origin making this happen.  However, what they are saying might just be the plain and simple truth.  After building and modifying gaming PCs for nearly 15 years, I came to the same conclusion.

Well it is not true...
Why would they do a limited press release, only to certain websites, announcing that they are offering less choice for their customers?
Why are they dropping AMD GPUs when their CPUs are not as competitive?

This obviously stunk of Nvidia from just the headline.

[QUOTE="horgen123"][QUOTE="NEWMAHAY"] That would be my guess. I see the standard edition between 600-650 dollars. NEWMAHAY
Still too much if you ask me.

The whole flagship being over 600 dollars started this year. It was always around the 500 dollar mark before.

What? You mean like 8800GTX and 8800Ultra?
Like the GTX280?
Like the majority of the dualGPU cards?

Why are you getting a 4770(non-K) and a Z87?
4670k is the best bang for you buck.

Get 1600mhz DRAM, no need for highspeed ram unless you plan on using the APU.

If you shop now/right as the new cards drop, you can probably find some decent deals for AMD GPUs.

Edit- Unless you plan on watercooling your GPU and need a reference card, I would probably go with a Gigabyte or MSI 7970OC, if you are buying right now rather than waiting.

[QUOTE="BluRayHiDef"]

Someone explain to me what stacked DRAM is, please, and how it differs from non-stacked DRAM.

mastershake575

There basically trying to stack the GPU ram closer to the GPU itself to increase bandwidth and reduce latency (you can read more about it here http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/03/19/nvidia_gpu_roadmap_computing_update/ ).

You massively decrease the logic, massively increase the density, you decrease the length of the interconnects with TSVs which in turn allows you to run at much higher speeds with less power/heat.

There no confirmation of the maxwell (GTX 800) or AMD's pirate islands having GDDR6 ram as the standard. By the time the cards under 20nm come out (Volta for NVidia, not sure on AMDs naming), we will have stacked DRAM regardless.mastershake575

Exactly. By the time these new memory types will be finalized there will be quite a few more technologies competing for.
Stacked DRAM, HMC, memristor and similar technologies are going to completely change the DDR/GDDR marketplace in the next few years.

I like it a lot. Not a huge fan of thumbsticks though I have used them way too much.

Very very interested and hope they can sell them <$40.

so what happened?  What was the unveil about?

blaznwiipspman1

Here is Anand's live blog of the non-NDA part of the event.

True Audio- Fully Programmable Audio Engine.
UHD/4k- Panasonic
Some limited details of lineup,
For R9 290x, +6bil transistors, +5TFlops, +300GB/s bandwidth, +4bil tri/sec, double geometry performance.
Bunch of partnerships with different studios/IHVs showing off their games with AMD tech.
Maingear loves R9 series.
Overly long StarCitizen demo but running around in hangar was pushing 18m polys.
Raptr- Consolidating games/friends lists/apps to one place. Also will identify your system specs and config games depending on your requirements based on other users performance, cloud based. Also provides game record/stream ability.
Frosbite/BF4 - Game changer = Mantle GCN low level API. Allows for lower overhead, better use of CPU/GPU, 9x the draw calls.

This whole "gpu" announcement had fail written all over it.

I was really looking forward to see what AMD are bringing to the table and they just banged on about audio for practicly the whole thing! The fact that he said " our most powerful card ever " leads me to think they couldn't beat the titan whether they wanted to or not.

Mantle could have some substance though as long as it doesn't damage the industry which is a possability. All in all very very disappointing.

I now have no quarms about getting myself another 780.acanofcoke

What were you expecting? A full NDA reveal at the sametime as the press/reviewers?

I've had my XFX HD 5870 for a few years now and want to upgrade soon. How would you rate this card by today's standards? Provide a rating on a scale from 1-10 and a written explanation, please.

BluRayHiDef

It is roughly equal to a $150 7850. So I'll go with a 4, if you believe Titan or highend CF/SLI setups are a 10.
