So my 60GB is dead since quite a while now. Basically it doesn't read ANY discs. Everything else is fine, i can download and play/watch, etc... The usual problem, right?!

So i'm out of Warranty and have to pay $170 (canada). This sucks, so i'd like to keep that money if possible. 2 choices...use the cleaning CD, or directly clean the lens.

I have the Maxell BD Cleaner coming in next week. Until then i'd like to try to clean the lens maybe. I just need to know exactly what type of liquid do i have to apply on a q-tip to nicely clean it whitout killing the lens? Anything not too crazy that i might have in the house?

My other concern is about Sony's repair. I've read on another forum that Sony will absolutely NOT fix my PS3 if it has been opened...even if i want to pay the $170!! Is that true? If so this is stupid, i'll call a coffin right away i guess...

Thanks a lot for any help!

Wow! Thanks for the coments like "that's not our problem" and "enjoy your broken PS3". What a bunch of arses are on here nowadays?!?
Seriously, did i said that it was you guys fault/problem? I was just asking for a little help or something. The Gamespot population goes lower each day, just like the site/staff itself it seems.

Back on topic...i (finally!) called them today. Have a PS2 and played downloads on the PS3 so i could live. Since it's a year and a half they said the only possible outcome is to pay $169 CND. That's it! Dang, i played like 2 PS3 games in full only and watched a couple dvd/bd on it. That strongly blows.

So how about a Blu-Ray/PS3 cleaning kit, do i have some hope on my problem?
Is the 60GB crap? Should i switch it for a 80GB and keep my HDD?
Is transfering the data on my 60GB to a 80GB complicated, what's needed and all?

I'm so mad. Guess my 360 and other systems will keep getting all my game time for a while...

Thanks.

I'm NOT paying $150 to repair a 60 GB system i paid full price in 2007... especially considering it should not have stopped working for no reasons.

[QUOTE="Lenwood26"]WOW, COPYRIGHT LAWS ARE NOT THAT DIFFERENT FOR CANADA, I CAN STREAM VIDEOS FROM THE INTERNET WITHOUT ANY INFRINGEMENT, SONY SHOULD HAVE GOT THERE S**T TOGETHER AND HAD IT READY FOR THE WHOLE REGION INSTEAD OF SEPARATING AS THEY SEEM SO GOOD AT.plg2307

Sorry but things ARE different in canada ... my guess is that ... the reason is our marvelous 2 official languages (hey I'm french but still hate getting stuff late because of some stupid law, just let them release the stuff in english only!)

So yeah my guess is: cause of our country

You're right. At first i thought the idea of copyright was crap as all US licenses are in effect in Canada too. But then you bring up French language (maudit niaisage pour les films et les jeux...). It might be the reason. Then again, english/japanese only anime discs are released feely in Canada stores, so why not PSN Vid Store too? Actually that argument is also shot down. So why the hell do we get the short end of the stick really?

Yeah so the title says it all.

Some days ago i insert Resistance. Game disc starts loading, then goes back to the XMB and says something like "couldn't start the disc / couldn't proceed the disc startup operation" or something along those lines. I freak, eject, retry. Same result. Do it a third time, then i get no error messages at all...just nothing happens!

At this point i'm really freaking. So i do a complete shutdown by the back switch. I only restarted it 2 days after to install 2.41 update (by the way i never installed 2.40 so that couldn't be the reason for problems). System is fine and all, updated. I can play videos, music, demos, downloads. So i retry a PS3 disc. Nothing. I then proceed to try a CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, PS1, PS2 and PS3 disc. Not a single type of disc is being read by my PS3 anymore. It stays on the XMB and nothing happens, except the small circle icon at the top right meaning the system is reading something stays active. But i let it try to read some discs for like an hour with no results.

So it seems only the Blu-Ray drive/disc reader doen't work. That really sucks to have that right now.

Is there anythign i can do? Or do i have to call Sony and get it repaired/replaced? If so can anyone give me the number where we have to call...i'm in Canada if that matters.

On a side note what's up with the PSN Video Store? It's not available in Canada it seems...Sony never said it would be US only. Will it be available soon or what?

I'm also confused about this. Just as you, 2 days ago at night i went on the PN Store hoping to see that new Video icon at the top...only to find nothing. Sony never said that would be US only.

Clarification/update would be highly appreciated.

Holy crap. I'll try the remote control change. So i guess that is what the Network light is all about. What a relief. But i can never connect to my PS3 with my PSP when i'm not at home...it always fail, only manage to do it when i'm at home on my PSP close to my network. So my Wireless Network problems probably play in this too...Argh! Help me!

But i don't think this is what causes the loud fan-like noise. Well it would be great but i doubt it. I'll check this out later tonight.

Yes my PS3 is well ventilated. Well maybe not much ventilated at all, but it's not in a closed space, it's on the 4th/5th level of a 5 level component shelf that i use for all my gaming systems. Huge rack besides my tv, it's open from all sides. And i do sometimes let a disc in it but i try not too if possible mostly. When i know the next time i'll play the same disc i usually let it in there. This shouldn't be much of a problem though, especially with a 1 year old system...

Already posted in the PS3 board but i doubt i'll get much good help if any at all compared to the good people of GGD so...

Ok so i have my 60GB PS3 since pretty much exactly 1 year. I started having a weird problem with it about 3-4 months ago. It's quite troubling and i'd like advice opinions.

My PS3 is standing vertical...is that any worst than horizontal?

Anyway what happens is that when i shut down my PS3 (either by using the PS button on remote/controller or by holding the button 3 sec on the system...not complete power off with the back switch) it goes in what seems like a sleep mode. But as far as i know the PS3 is NOT suppossed to do this. The Green light (network one) stays 100% bright/lighted-up, not even flashing. Yet the orange HDD light is off and the power light is red as off. Very anormal as that green network light is not even always fully lighted like this when the system is running and online...yet it is when i shut down my PS3. And it's not because it do some background download either. Also my PS3 keeps doing a pretty loud noise...24/24 all day long. Like it's still running or at least the fan is still running. It's actually louder than my PC or any other hardware i have. When my PS3 is supposed to be OFF!!

To recap when i use my PS3 the HDD and Network lights flashes at whatever rate depending on use. The system makes regular noise.
When my PS3 is off, the Network green light goes into always fully lighted mode, and the system keeps making like 80% of the noise it does when running.

When i enter my room and nothing is playing, first thing i notice is that i quite clearly hear my PS3 like it's still running or at least a fan is running.

So i often have to completely power it off with the back switch. I know this is bad for the system to do this often. But i'm fearing having my PS3 in normal off/red light mode is almost as if it's always on, which is also obviously really bad for the system. I fear like this is strongly draining the life out of my PS3 and bumping up the electricity bill to add to the injury.

So what's wrong with my PS3, and what should i do about this? By the way i'm not using folding@home and never clicked on that option at all.

Thanks a lot for any help!

Also random like that, how do i choose an IP/DNS to set? I have all my PS3/360/Wii using my Wireless Network, but they are all set at Automatic. So often my PS3 don't wanna connect, or worse disconnect while i'm playing and freezes the system. This is bad AND annoying. So i'd like to shoot a fix IP/DNS and all that to my PS3 and 360 so that they are always connected online and all fine, whitout any danger of it disconnecting on me while i'm playing. Problem is that i'm clueless about this stuff, so some help is definitely need about this too.

First post in like a year...welcome back to me!
