Thanks for you reply I actually didn't think anyone would respond, however I have a solution for the problem and yes my ps3 does actually play DD 5.1 with this setup through HDMI, I just can't get the xbox to work. The DD 5.1 symbol appears on my avr screen and I hear full audio in all speakers on the ps3. To get my xbox to work I have decided to buy a splitter for my optical output cable coming from the avr and then have two optical output cables from the splitter, one going to the xbox via an AV componant > Optical output adapter. The second optical output cable going to the LCD tv which at the moment I currently have the one optical output cable setup like that which has allowed DD 5.1 on the ps3. I think it's SFE or standard left/right speakers working for normal digital tv via the built in freeview.

I did however have to change the BD/DVD audio settings from 'LCP Linear?' to Bitstream for it to play dd5.1 during blu-ray movies as at first it was only playing on ps3 games and dvd's. But what you've said sounds correct also, so why is there 5.1 then on the ps3? I don't have an HDMI port on the back of the avr, is it possible that it can only receive it via other built-in features on say the tv, xbox or ps3?

Hello, It would be much appreciated if someone could clarify a few things for me, here's the deal; I have my xbox 360 elite and my PS3 connected via HDMI to my Samsung LCD - series 6 TV which can be found here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-LE40B650T2-1080P-Crystal-Freeview/dp/B001UE8LXI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1243896106&sr=1-1 and I have an optical output cable connected from my TV to my samsung surround sound receiver (I don't know it's model number) for surround sound on both consoles.

Now my friend has just told me that with this current setup, my xbox is only outputting Pro Logic 2 sound because he said the xbox elite has an older version of HDMI (1.2?) but that my PS3 is perfectly fine as its HDMI is up to date. When I was playing my xbox I couldnt tell if the surround sound was actual DD 5.1 or Pro Logic 2 which may sound strange to some, and I even had 5.1 setup perfectly with my previous LCD tv before I bought this new Samsung series 6 tv a few days ago. I can't really tell if im hearing 5.1 or not because I can hear sounds through all speakers, I even played gears of war 2 to hear explosions ans gunfire from behind. It just botheres me if im not getting the full thing here, is this just pro logic 2 mimicing 5.1? In my xbox settings it says audio is currently set to dolby digital 5.1 but I would appreciate it if someone could tell me if it is or not. I wish there was some sort of sound meter or in-tv menu sound readings to tell you what exactly the sound is, not what the xbox thinks it is. Thanks for your patience.

I thought TGS had press conferances like E3 but I can't see any links or timers ticking down for each company's press conferance. How's it working this year?

I think i'm leaning more towards the 60 gig model, i don't actually have the money for the elite but i could try and scrape up more money to buy it in the next month or so if i wanted. I think any model i buy will have a longer lifespan than the 20 gig i have now, because i'm slightly worried that i may get RROD during the major game releases. I think I've had this one for like 9 months. Thanks for your opinions.

I have a 20 gig premium from november 2006 and I'd like a bigger hdd so that i can install the latest games after the fall dashboard update. But I'd like to know if the 60 gig model is more reliable that the 20 gig model from 2006, and how much more reliable is the elite than the 60 gig? I'm interested in the elite because it is known for it's reliability, bigger hdd and it makes less noise, versus the cheaper 60 gig which is cheaper but had half the memory. I'd like to hear your personal opinions on which version is worth the money, thanks.

But what exactly does home have that the new avatars won't? Ok the avatars are much simpler visually, but they've been incorporated with the dashboard so that you never have to leave the dashboard and go into some added program, it's all there from the get go. I think people are missing the point really, they avatars are merely representations of your friends in a party when your joining games and chatting to each other. You can play arcade games, watch movies with each other. If these features were added to the current dashboard as somethings more to the list, they wouldn't have any visual flair, they'd be invisible to people who havn't bought a 360 yet. But when someone sees an xbox switched on, they'll immediately pick up on the avatar and your friends as characters in the scene. Another thing, those gamer pics and themes you bought, you can only use one at a time. Do you usually switch between them or do you just buy the latest pics and themes for a new game being released? Because a brand new interface that's fresh and faster is somthing that i'd welcome, i think once the update is released everyone is just going to forgot about gamer pics and themes when they're playing gears 2, or fable or any of the other new games. Didn't microsoft mention that you'll be able to unlock stuff for your avatars through games anyway so it's not like you HAVE to pay for your avatar?

not just gamer pictures, but themes as well remember. The new dashboard looks completely different from the current one and there are no sldies as such with picture backgrounds. Unless your able to add a background picture to the new sections, but there's like more than 5 i think and a current theme only covers 4 of the 5 slides today. If that makes sense, i could be wrong though.

The two maps are not exact re-makes, they're only based on them because Sidewinder apparently had some design flaws that took away from the overall experience and they were removed (like the whole teleporter section of the map for example). The layout of Blackout looks to be the closest re-make to it's original, but I still think that it's only based on Lockout and it has addd catwalks apprently.

Well of course everyone would say Uncharted...are you seriously expecting people to say DMC4 when uncharted is THE exclusive on the ps3 right now. I do however, recommend uncharted as it is a great game, not the greatest, but it will certainly ease the paranoia of wether or not your pruchase of a ps3 was worth it a little, so try it. No sarcasm was intended at all btw, no, really...uncharted is a good game.
