Nobuo for dramatic music andrare masterpieces. Koji for consistency in quality. I prefer Nobuo because he made a larger impact on me.
You do not need to play it, as HL2 is almost a totally different game. However, I prefer HL1 much more than HL2 to be honest, for many different reasons.
