Gzmask - do you have WarioWare? There's some minigames where you have to hold the remote like an umbrella. The IR is NOT facing the sensorbar. Some minigames you have to hold the Wiimote like you're drving, and your hands is COVERING the IR, and it still works beautifully.

   So, I disagree with you with it being a 3D mouse. It's just a Wiimote, a definition of it's own. I would like it to be prefered to be called the Wiimote, or the Wii remote, or Wii controller, but please don't call it a 3D mouse.

Failure? I would never thing the GC as a failure.
  Yes, they had wonderful 1st party games - Smash Bros Melee, Zelda series, Super Mario Sunshine, to name a few.

I think people got more involved with PS2 and Xbox because of more complicated games, and higher ERSB ratings than most GC games, as well as online components. Out of everyone, Microsoft really did the best with their Live stuff. I never played online stuff with any of my consoles, so it didn't matter to me.
   The Wii now is made for the general public,  more worldwide audience. It's really not made for the hardcore gamer. Wii is like Dell in the gaming world, while hardcore players will use Viper or Alienware.

 Does that make sense?

So, no, I do not think the GameCube is a failure.
