I disagree. First, I think that O'Neill, not Jackson, was always set up as the main character (at least in the series).ArdnekGames

OK. If that's the case I still maintain my point: It's not the same. After eight years of following the same cast and getting to "know" them, to all of a sudden plop some new guy in there feels awkward and weird. I'm not particularly impressed with the new general especially since he comes off as a dick. RDA was great. He had that subtle sense of humor and always air of sarcasm about him that was never hostile. This guy just feels stiff, no emotion or range or anything.

To try and phrase it more specifically so as to not sound like I'm just whining, this guy seems to be playing the part as if he could give a @#$! less about being in command. Almost as if he was sent there against his will and is now just serving out his time until he gets another assignment. While Gen. Hammond before him and Gen. O'Neil were there from the beginning and had a history with the program, so therefore they care more about it. This guy seems to be like, "Well, do whatever you want as long as the job is getting done," as he walks into his office and shuts the door.

Ben Browder is a bloody good actor, so don't go dissing him. MINEEME

No one's dissing anyone. I said I don't like him being on the show.

...and they could also bring Jonas back so the team can always have a carter or daniel...Kurushio

Ugh, no thanks. No one can replace Daniel, especially that Paker Lewis Can't Lose boy. Season six is still my least favorite because of him. Daniel is to Stargate as Mulder was to The X-Files, meaning, he's the whole reason there is a show. Without Daniel they never would have deciphered the Stargate, and likewise (as the last two seasons of The X-Files are testament to this fact) once you try "replacing" the main character it all turns to @#%$.

I love the current series. I don't know where it's headed and I'm not particularly trying to figure it out. That's part of the fun in watching I suppose.

I don't really think it's fair to compare the two since they are widely divergent on the topics they show. SG-1 is an episodic series that was spawned from a great movie license, so of course there must be better cohesion because it's all tied in together. There's a plot and backstory to the series that makes it more intricate to follow.

While on the other hand The X-Files was striving for something different in every show because it was based on the paranormal. What I mean is there was no backstory prior to that series being created. It was meant to tackle various subjects of the paranormal field, whereas SG was founded upon a solid backstory already so it's only natural that it would follow a more cohesive path while The X-Files did not because it didn't have to, it was meant to bounce around from week to week from topic to topic because that's what the entire series was about: exploring the different aspects of the paranormal.

Each series is successful because each one excelled at what they offered. WIth SG it kept true to the original source material while at the same time expanding and expounding on that original material, while The X-Files succeeded because every episode was different because it had to be. They couldn't keep airing the show with the same premise over and over again because then it would have become stale. I hope that makes sense. It's a lot to explain to show how the two shows are different, why they're different and why each one succeeds/succeeded at what it does/did.

You may think this is strange, but I started watching Stargate SG-1 when season 8 started. And I started watching Atlantis at season 1. What about you guys???shockwave04

Ah, another late bloomer like myself. Technically I never started watching the show as it was on TV, BUT, I was interested in it and willing to give it a shot after catching just random episodes on Sci-Fi when I was bored and nothing else was on. I loved the movie so I figured I'd take a chance on the show, if not just to satisfy my own curiousity about how they translated everything from the movie over to TV.

I bought the first season DVD boxset at Best Buy and from that night on it's been friggin' crack! I couldn't get enough! I quickly bought the remaining seasons and couldn't watch them fast enough. That was probably way back in June/July of last year that I "discovered" what a great series this was. So yeah, a little over a year was when I got hooked.

My only gripe is the new guy. For some reason it just pisses me off that he's leeched over onto SG-1. He had his own show with FarScape. What happened to that? Was it cancelled? I don't know 'cause I never followed it. All I know is I don't like the dude from FS on SG-1. And in all honestly I hope this is their last season. I love the show, don't get me wrong, but there's only so much creative genius left. Jesus, look at the earlier seasons and how many times they got rid of/brought back Apophis?! C'mon. Even then I was like, !#@$-ing kill him already!

Overall it's not a bad season so far, although a little too early to call right now, IMHO.
