I tried the bike once since I have gotten the game, and I was all over the place. LOL The steering is much looser to me, and they go so much faster than the karts. I am going to have to try it again soon. I agree the tricks that I was able to pull off on the bike were much cooler than the ones in the karts.strieeyes

It's all about getting the right "touch" with the wheel.

My first few races with the bikes I too was all over the place, but once I got the hang of it I became hooked. I honestly don't think I'd voluntarily use Karts again anytime soon.

Alot of people seem to have stories about bad losses at Mario Kart Wii in Online Mode.

You know what I'm talking about. Those times when you're in first place the entire race only to have that 10 year old from Mexico nail you with a blue shell, sending you all the way to the back of the pack, causing your VR ranking to drop, your eyes to water, and your Grandmother to cry.

Anyhoo, I figured a cool thread could be people sharing their "bad beats".

I don't want this to be a complaining thread. I don't want to hear about how the lightning is unfair or how the blue shells are the spawn of Satan, I just want to hear the stories.

Cool? Okay.

I had this happen last night as well, thought it was just my wireless connection. I don't think it's a big deal. It works okay now. This was last night during primetime, I'm sure that the servers got overwhelmed by all the people logging in. Its new, they probably gotta tweak something.ebaybenjidogg

Exactly.

All the hooplah started for me around 6-7pm EST, that's when I began to get knocked off periodically, and it also coinsided with when a good bulk of the East Coast was just getting home from work/school. Makes sense that such a new game is overloaded.

Come 10-11:30pm EST, I couldn't even connect online. Once again, it was prime gaming time, so it's understandable that it'd be overloaded. On the plus side, it gave me an excuse to unlock more crap via Grand Prix, a feature which I seem to ignore when online is working.

I went to bed around midnight, and was able to get online easily around then. I didn't play, but I did connect just to see if I could, and I didn't have an issue at all.

Now I'm stuck in my office, anxiously awaiting 5pm so I can whoop some jabroni's behind with Rosalina.

I prefer the bikes so much more than the karts. I think they manuever better in tighter spaces, the wheelies give me a better chance to get speed boosts whenever I need them, and the tricks you can perform just seem cooler.

If you're friends with the people don't they know you added them? Like can't you just ask when you talk to them?

"Hey Frank did you add me in Mario Kart?"

"Oh I'm sorry Ted, I was out last night working at the fish packing plant trying to save money for my aunt's quilting class, I'll add you when I get home from it today"

Problem solved

Epic win because it's so true.

Considering how most of the people I have on my list aren't friends in life where I have their phone numbers that really doesn't apply...

You can't send them an email?

Wouldn't it be more convenient to not have to though? That's all they're saying.

Honestly, all the banter and complaining is pointless, as nothing's going to change.

Nintendo wants to ensure online safety and security, so they're doing anything and everything they can to do that. The last thing Nintendo wants is some sordid story on CNN about a 13 year old being raped and murdered by a guy they met on Mario Kart or Smash Brothers. Nintendo will gladly annoy a portion of their audience in order to prevent that, because they know that portion of the audience will still play the game regardless.

I get a kick out of how my back up option is to play Grand Prix. It makes me wonder how I grew up with my Nintendo and SNES, in a world without WiFi !!! ( GASP !!! )

I'm having the exact same error right now ( 10:53 E.T. ) ... been happening for a good 10-15 mins, and happened a bit earlier as well.

I'll be honest, I'm kinda happy others are having the same issues !!!

I guess it's just overloaded.

Jayson, I agree with alot of what you said. The items are, and always have been, a vital part of the Mario Kart experience. I also agree that the proper knowledge as to how to use the items is a very important aspect of the game.

I've been playing Kart since the SNES, and this is probably the first time I've ever actually gotten frustrated being screwed out of spots in each particular race.

Maybe it's because of the Wi-Fi capabilities. I might simply be annoyed at the fact that I know there's some chick in France jumping up and down on her sofa because she just crushed some American's dreams with a blue shell, or the annoyance might come from the fact that I KNOW I'm a better player than these people I'm losing to.

I don't think the weapons should be eliminated from the game, but I do believe there should be a counter involved that people can use, so that skill plays just as important a role in the game as luck.

You don't always have a shell for protection, and you don't always have a mushroom for a last second speed up. I don't think it would be out of the realm of logic to have some sort of button combination that allows you to dodge an incoming blue shell, or swerve from an incoming red shell. You can keep the essence and predictability of the game while also making it so that more skilled players have the ability to use their skills to their advantage.

Like the poster above me said, you're defenseless against lighting, and a blue shell is virtually unstoppable. I don't believe that should be the case. I think there should be something in place where, if you've got the talent, you can at the very least limit the damage those weapons do to you.

I only own a Wii right now, I'm considering snagging a PS3 this summer, mainly for the BluRay player and my love for wrestling games that control better than the rechid SD vs RAW for the Wii.

Anyways, dependant on financial situations at the time, I could see myself getting GTA for the Wii. I'm not sure it would be a game I reserve and snag at midnight on release day, but I could see myself possibly strolling into a store and picking it up.

What Nintendo should do is come out with a Mario based GTA style game. You play the role of an angry Goomba, pissed off that his species is seen as nothing but a failure. He roams around Yoshi's Island hijacking Mario out of his plumbing van, hanging Toad upside down inside a toilet, and forcing Princess and Rosalina to turn tricks for Wario and Waluigi on the corner of Rainbow Road.

That's a game I'd buy.
