Ok, so i know i already asked this question for myself, but as you know, i have a much better budget than my friend here. Anyways, his birthday is coming up, but his budget is real low, like $350 low, so if anyone knows a laptop new OR used in this procerange that could play really simple games, like minecraft and the original HALO, and possibly planetside 2 at low-med please help out. Right now he's using the suckiest laptop ever, an acer with GMA graphics for gods sake, and an Intel Pentium Dual Core at 1.45 Ghz overclocked to 1.9, and starting to hate computers and gaming because of how bad it is. I hate to see this, but with some problems in his family his budget is really low. Any help on this subject is truly appreciated. Thanks.

OK so i found this and it seems ideal, but i don't know if this price is even low enough... if anyone could find it used it'd be much appreciated.

Yep, with a ram upgrade and razer gamebooster, this can run skyrim at about 30 FPS on high.

just dont get a laptop.

for that price range the performance will be pathetic compared to a desktop. and then in 2 years that £600 will be worth nothing and youll have to pay out more all over again. think about what you throw away when a laptop goes out of date. monitor, case, keyboard, touch pad, hard drives, disk drives, motherboard, any graphics card it might have, power supply. all this gets thrown away.

with a desktop you can keep most of those components and just upgrade cpu/mobo/gpu every few years. you will save alot of money and your quality of gaming would be worthwhile, which it wouldnt be on a cheap laptop.

Sigh, some people just dont understand. I bought thishttp://www.amazon.com/HP-Envy-dv6-7218nr-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B009X8EA92/ref=dp_ob_title_ce, and it can run skyrim at high, if you add a cheap $20 ram upgrade and razer gamebooster, which is not that hard. Trust me, this is what you should buy. Just make sure you get a ram upgrade, so that your running at 8 gigs instead of 4, and download razer gamebooster, it can boost about 10 FPS!

You could barely get a $500 gaming desktop, laptop need to be compacted, low power draw and very low heat production and they have to add a screen. Not going to happen. mucgoo

You couldn't be more wrong. I bought this laptop, which is my suggestion, and with razer gamebooster is running skyrim at high.http://www.amazon.com/HP-Envy-dv6-7218nr-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B009X8EA92/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

Get it dude, this is a great deal. Don't listen, with some rendering, razer gamebooster, and a ram updgrade, I'm running Far Cry 3 at medium high baby!

I am thinking about the windows 8 one and i think i'll go for it, simply because i can still run minecraft on this PC on render distance normal. However, I have heard that steam is also refusing to allow access for win 8? Is that right, because if so defiantly not.

Just realize that a $500 isn't gonna buy you a whole lot of gaming power in the laptop department, it will likely be able to only run averagely demanding games at medium settings, and probably won't be able to play new games at all within 1-2 years (especially with the new consoles coming out).General_X
Don't worry, i already know that :). I'm a bit of a cheapass though, so I'm sort of stuck in between $400 and $800. I found a $600 with NVIDIA and an i5, heres the link http://www.buy.com/prod/acer-aspire-as5750-6653-15-6-notebook-intel-core-i5-2430m-2-40ghz-6gb/224166588.html?listingId=-1 I would prefer a desktop myself but because i'm constantly playing LAN with my buddies, and need something portable I'm stuck with laptops :/
