Thanks for all your responses, I'll definitely be looking into some of these.

I actually own Tachyon: The Fringe as well, to those who brought that one up. Its a pretty decent game, I think it came out around the same time as Starlancer, because I bought them both at the same time one day on a visit to Best Buy. You can imagine how happy I was, finding 2 space sims I'd never heard of until then sitting there, apparently brand new on the shelf. In Tachyon your main character is voiced by Ash himself (Bruce Campbell), so that alone kinda helped it along for me.

Starlancer though became one of my favorites, I love the ships and the characters and everything. The missions were awesome, if it wasn't for the difficulty and then having to replay difficult missions over and over again after failing, then it would be almost perfect.

Yeah I played the Privateer games as well, to those who asked. I especially love Privateer 2: The Darkening. First thing I'd ever seen Clive Owen in, and because of that he'll always be Lev Arris in my mind.

I really hope that Wing Commander will in some way be continued though, not counting the crappy XBLA title put out in its name. I have a Microsoft Sidewinder II joystick thats just begging for something new, and not solely mouse controlled. Something tells me I'll be waiting a while for that though :(

At evening time for me in the UK, many American gamers come online, with the majority being cool & fun to play with.
Some of the time though, there is an idiot singing, doing annoying imperssonations or being racist. When they find out that I'm a Brit, they rant and rave about tea, the queen, world war 2 (none of which they know nothing about), and other stupid subjects. They are so sloganised and idiotic it really makes my headhurt... It sucks the enjoyment out of a game...

Sorry for the rant :)
What do you do with racist, or plain annoying people on xbox live?

I'm American but I know what you mean.. and it bothers me sometimes too. What I do, is just unplug my headset. Sure you can still hear them through the speakers, but usually the sounds of the game muffles them out well enough to not be heard or understood. Every now and then you'll hear an 8 year old squeak out ten cuss words in a row, but thats about it.

I know its not much of a solution, but it becomes more enjoyable to me to pretend I'm playing vs adults who simply don't speak. :)

Initally no, i got frustrated as hell with it mainly because of the save system. But then i came back to it and had a blast. It is an awesome game if you accept the save system for how it is and you play the game around it!599USDollarsHEH

Exactly the same experience for me. The first time I picked it up, I was just unwilling to learn it because there were too many things that just bothered me. The save system, and no way to shut Otis up on the radio.... But once I gave it a shot again later, it quickly became one of my favorite 360 games (even today).

I grew to understand the save system as well though... the majority of the mall is unsafe for obvious reasons, so you need to get to a safe room/area to save your game. Thats the point of a lot of the challenge in the game, that is to get from point to point, or escort people to safety from start to finish without being killed, its all a big RUSH when your out in the open. If you could save halfway through, there would be no real challenge... imagine being able to save your game during a racing game when you're doing well.. and if you end up losing, being able to load up your save from midway through the race while you were still winning, and continuing from there. It would defeat the purpose.

Anyone know if the Airport Extreme or the Time Capsule is compatible with the 360's wireless adapter? The router compatibility list on 360's website is very out of date.

Blu-Ray is reason enough I would think. As far as I know (which isn't very far) its still the cheapest Blu-Ray player out there, right? Besides... your gonna need one for MGS:4 anyway, not like you're gonna miss out on that.

ok so i adore zombie games and dead rising seems like the ultimate.... you can say that dead rising is probably the reason im getting a 360 but im curious if its a good starting game...... i randomly picked up prey at ebgames along with dead rising cause prey was cheap and dead rising is.....

so are the both good starting games or could you pretty much start with any game?

siruslife4

I can't comment on Prey as I've never played it, but I can tell you you're right on the money about Dead Rising being the ultimate zombie game. Its the closest imitation of a good ole' zombie flick in a video game that I've seen yet. Easily one of the best games on 360 in my opinion.

After you're done with those though.. the 2 biggest titles I would recommend is Gears of War, and Mass Effect. Theres LOTS of good ones to pick from obviously, just trying to narrow it down for you.

Might add Eve online here.Zaeryn

You know, I'm really depressed that a space mmo flew under my radar for so long. I didn't hear of it, until almost a year ago. How is it?

It is not older then dirt but it's not the newest kid on the block. Freespace 1 and 2 are by far some of the best space sims I ever played. You can get both of them on Gametap. There is also a great remake of Wing Commander Privateer being done that is freeware on sourceforge, can't remember the name of it off hand.Kragspire

NICE thanks, thats morely what I'm looking for.. as opposed to RTS games. Am checking out the Privateer remake now.

Are there any good (somewhat new) space sim games out there? I've always loved the Wing Commander series, and Starlancer, and Freelancer.. etc. But lately I've really been itching to play this type of game again. Anyone know of one?
