I've always had at least one iteration of a Nintendo handheld since the first Gameboy - I can't picture gaming without one these days to be honest. Gameboy was the first video game related system I owned and set me on the path of handheld gaming. Since then I've always had one to compliment any consoles/my PC.
I do like the fact brought up about lower budgets and more chances to be creative on handhelds. I fear we wouldn't have recevied many of the great games we have over the years - especially DS/3DS games where touchscreens and dual screens are involved.
At the moment I am hyped plenty more for the future release calendar for 3DS vs PC, but I do tend to game more on my PC. I figure it comes from the fact my PC backlog is far larger then my DS/3DS and I'm more likely to wait and buy games once a complete/GOTY edition comes out.
