Ridley Scott clearly has no idea what he's doing with the Alien Franchise and I view his "prequels" as nothing more than a side story untill the original authors of the story (O'Bannon & Shussett) state officially that what he is doing is within their vision - and that isn't going to happen since one of them is dead.
The biggest contributions Ridley made to the franchise in my opinion is directing the original movie and bringing H. R. Giger on board. Since then his "contributions" have harmed the series more than anything else.
For example, in the original movie, the space jockey was truly alien - a gigantic elephantine skeleton (you even see one of the characters putting their hand inside the chest cavity stating that it looks fossilised. Prometheus also had 2,000 year old murals depicting the xenomorphs - but then Ridley Scott puts into Covenant (which takes place only a couple of decades before the original Alien - cancelling out the "fossilization) that the xenomorphs are actually the creation of David. I'm betting that the next movie he'll probably be trying to make out that David is actually the original movie's "Ash"...
There's a simple solution to this - and that's for gamers to simply vote with their wallets.
If you want to have the option to play second-hand games - for financial or personal reasons - then simply don't buy any format (or game) which has been set up to the detriment of people who prefer the second hand market.
