Blog! I've only blogged once this whole year hahaha, oh well, time for my traditional year in review post that people started to copy last year *shifty eyes* What better time for this than black friday?

-CatherineGr33nHippo

Didn't really predict much xD 2011 seemed pretty void from the start I suppose. Last Guardian never came out, and I decided to pass on Team Ico Collection. As for 2012, I predict I will buy:

-Persona 5 (PS3) (if it comes out)

Well then, till next year. :P

2010 Year in Review

by on

Time for my annual blog looking back at my anime/gaming purchases of the year! (2009, 2008) The totals this year surprised me... I spent the most money on games/anime even though I spent the least amount of time on them.

Playstation 3
System (after selling Xbox360) - $0
Final Fantasy XIII - $60
Valkyria Chronicles (x2) - $40
BlazBlue Calamity Trigger - $20
Demon's Souls LE PAL - $55
Metal Gear Solid 4 - $13

Playstation 2
Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne - $30
Fatal Frame 2 - $30
Final Fantasy X - $0
Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi - $0
Metal Gear Solid 2 - $0
Metal Gear Solid 3 - $0 (gifts from cousin)

Wii/DS
Sky Crawlers Innocent Aces - $10
No More Heroes 2 - $17
Pokemon Soul Silver - $35

PC/Other
Left 4 Dead + Left 4 Dead 2 - $10
Custom Built Arcade Stick - $130

Anime
School Rumble Complete - $35
Toradora Complete - $80
Kiki's Delivery Service - $15
Azumanga Daioh - $30
Shadow Star Narutaru Complete - $13
Serial Experiments Lain Artbook - $10
Evangelion Posters (2) - $60
Anime Expo Trip (hotel) - $170

2010 Total - $863
2009 Total - $450
2008 Total - $485

Almost double what I spent the previous years, but if you take out the arcade stick and the anime expo costs its pretty much the same. Plus I got a lot of awesome deals this year so I'm happy, even though I did spend more than I should have. The only games I regret buying are NMH2 (because it was a disappointment) and Pokemon (I'm not big on portables anymore).

hehe, now to make my prediction on what I'll buy in 2010:
-Final Fantasy XIII (now in 2010 for sure)
-No More Heroes 2 (same to you)
-Zelda Wii (hopefully?)
-Tales of Graces (if there is a NA release)Gr33nHippo

Oooh, seems I fell off target once again. FF13 and NMH2 I got, but Tales of Graces never came out and like hell am I gonna get Zelda anymore. Miyamoto has lost his talent.

My predictions for 2011:
-The Last Guardian
-
Team Ico Collection
-
Catherine
-Resonance of Fate (unless I buy this in December, waiting on $20 price tag)

All PS3 baby! Glad I made that switch.
forgot to mention one small item.... bought a 40" HDTV for $800
No More 360!

by on

I sold my Xbox 360 Elite, 120GB HD, controller, and 3 games for $250. Also sold the rest of my 360 stuff for about $50 (I'm holding onto BlazBlue Limited Edition and Tales of Vesperia though). Now to wait for a good deal on a PS3, or summer.... whichever comes first.

Already picked up a copy of BlazBlue for PS3, was on sale for $20. Also plan to get Resonance of Fate, Final Fantasy XIII, and Demon's Souls. Already own Valkyria Chronicles. ^^

Sorry 360 friends for crossing to the dark side :o

ps. angel beats ftw.

Swap 360 for PS3?

by on

So I've been thinking about trading my 360 for a PS3, and since I haven't had a blog in a while, this is a good chance to hear some opinions.

So let me break down my reasoning. Firstly, here are the games I currently own for 360:

Halo 3
Rainbow Six Vegas: Las Vegas
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Naruto: Rise of A Ninja
BlazBlue
Tales of Vesperia
Bioshock

Of these, I only care about BlazBlue, Tales of Vesperia, and Bioshock. BlazBlue is also available on the PS3 ($30), and Bioshock is available on the PC ($10). Tales of Vesperia has a PS3 port in Japan, so I could just import that if it never comes stateside. The 360 has no announced exclusives that interest me.

The PS3 has the following that interests me:

Valkyria Chronicles
Demon's Souls
The Last Guardian
Final Fantasy XIII (most likely of higher quality than 360)
Blu-Ray
and... Persona 5.

Now Persona has not been announced yet, and there is a chance it will be for the 360 as well. But I don't think there is a chance of it being on the 360 only, and not the PS3. If it becomes a PS3-exclusive, then swapping for a PS3 will become a high priority since Persona is important to me.

So taking all this into consideration, do you see any downside of me swapping my 360 for a PS3? I plan to wait for E3 in any case (meaning no FF13 or Resonance of Fate for me xD)

BlazBlue Videos | Killer7 complete

by on

Beat Killer7, sugoi game. Didn't think it was possible for a video game to have a story as cryptic or convoluted as anime, but Killer7 proved me wrong ^^ Kaede was my favorite character, used her 90% of her time - that scoped weapon is just too good to resist. Other than her, I also used Dan and Con a few times. Also switched to Mask de Smith whenever a Giant Smile was going to fall on me xD

Here are my two favorite battles I've had from playing BlazBlue online. The first is Noel Vermillion (me, the girl with guns) against a Taokaka. I make a nice turn-around hehe ^^

The second is a Rachel Alucard vs. Rachel Alucard battle. I'm the one with brown hair. Definitely my most intense battle, went down to the very end with 10 seconds left!

Still want to fight Saber721 some more... get your RROD sorted out!

Top10 Anime of 09 |

by on

Well here is countdown of my top 10 anime from 2009. Anime countdown because if i did a video game countdown it would just be top 1 game from 09', since I only got one newly released game this year: BlazBlue! hehe, anyways - anime this year was very sugoi. Here is my top favs:

#10. Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 was a short story on two kids who try to make their way back home during a series of earthquakes. It was kind of dry in enjoyment at times, but the story and presentation was solid. Although they didn't do much other than walk with the occasional screaming as an aftershock struck nearby, the show effectively portrayed what effect an earthquake in Tokyo would likely have on the citizens.

#9. 11eyes

I started watching this because it reminded me of Chaos;Head, which had a very ridiculous storyline and cast. 11eyes proved to be the same. While the story/characters were so ridiculous, it just made it all the more enjoyable haha. For example, towards the end of the show one chick basically says to the male lead: "hey if we have sex we will become more powerful and we will have a better chance at defeating the enemy". So they do it and still get destroyed within seconds hahahaha. 11eyes, thanks for the laughs.

#8. Umineko no Naku Koro Ni

mmmm mystery island stories are intense, and Umineko was no exception. The intensity was crazy at first, but it kinda wore off for me around half-way (as what happened with Higurashi no Naku Koro ni). I guess they dragged the story on a bit too much (and a second season is on the way!). Anyways, intense show with a very unique presentation **** Basically, a few characters watch a series of murders over and over again (they unfold differently each time) in some sort of "game", where one tries to out-wit the other and prove that magic is not being used in the murders.

#7. Kampfer!

gender bender = hilarious
akane-chan = win

#6. K-ON!

Although it could have been a lot better, K-ON was an enjoyable watch. Mio-chan is sugoi. (yea im getting lazy with explanations if you can't tell) "Please dont say you are lazy! Date honto wa crazy~!"

#5. Kimi ni Todoke

Cute shoujo anime. err... oh! Hirano Aya plays this french exchange girl, who is sugoi.

#4. Saki

[a usual day of watching saki consisted of a) watching saki b) playing online mahjong while watching saki and c) having over-the-top reactions with midgetman. RIP Penguin Pete 12:58:57 ]

Another show like 11eyes with a ridiculous concept that helps contribute to great enjoyment. A winning cast of characters from tacos, disappearing lady, captain wa-haha, and boulders. (no those aren't their real names...) hehe, I had the most fun time with anime this year when it was spent watching a bunch of girls and one guy play mahjong.

#3. Darker than Black 2

A sequel that I actually found better than the original! *gasp* Well I guess it wasn't a whole lot better than the first, but the new soundtrack was excellent ^^

#2. To Aru Kagaku no Railgun

lol this spin-off show is great. Haven't even seen the main series, but thats not hampering my enjoyment. The characters and voice acting is what sells me into loving Railgun. ^^ Sa-TEN SAN! and Uiiiiiihhhhharrrrruuuuu~~~ don't get it? *sniff* well... asianpride understands me! *sniff*

#1. Bakemonogatari

Crazy, dark show with some of the freshest eye-candy visuals I've ever seen. Plus, Nadeko-chan is cute. lol my explanations have gotten shorter and shorter as I got closer to #1... should have been the other way around. Oh well... "-date honto wa crazy~"

woo, well theres my list. Whats your #1?

No More | ...

No More school! Winter break has come- I will be playing Xenosaga, Killer7, BlazBlue, and other good stuff. I'm getting better with Rachel Alucard, love the frog hehe. Also got a chance to open up the photoshop and make some new No More Heroes sigs, the sequel comes out next month ^^

Finished up a loli mecha series called "Sky Girls", was quite sugoi. Read my review if interested, comments are much appreciated.

Well that's it for now, take care everyone and enjoy your holidays!

Strawberry Candy | 2009 Year in Review

by on

So last year, I posted a blog (2008 year in review) to list all the anime/games I bought. Felt like doing it again so here goes. I managed to spend less than the year before:

Xbox 360
BlazBlue Limited Edition with OST - $60
Xbox Live - $40

Playstation 2
System - $60
Persona 3 Limited Edition with OST/Artbook - $30
Persona 4 Limited Edition with OST/Artbook - $30
Shadow Hearts Covenant - $20
Xenosaga I - $8
Metal Gear Solid 2 - free from cousin

Anime/Manga
Samurai Champloo Complete - $40
Tokyo Godfathers - $15
Death Note Box 2 - $40
Fullmetal Alchemist vol. 15-18 - ~$35

Wii/DS/PC

n/a

Last Year Total - ~$450
This Year Total - $385

In my other blog I said, "The only games I plan to get next year are No More Heroes 2 and Final Fantasy XIII." Funny how neither of those got released and the only new (released this year) game I got was BlazBlue - an unexpected title. Also didn't expect to get a PS2, but that helped me get through this quality gaming drought. :(

Anime was pretty weak this year in terms of North American releases. Even though Funimation went into 2009 after 7 days of continuous license announcements, and continued to obtain licenses throughout the year, none were absolute buys aside from Samurai Champloo.

hehe, now to make my prediction on what I'll buy in 2010:
-Final Fantasy XIII (now in 2010 for sure)
-No More Heroes 2 (same to you)
-Zelda Wii (hopefully?)
-Tales of Graces (if there is a NA release)

Oh and level up, I'm 50 - Strawberry Candy ^^
