    *******SPOILER ALERT*****************

Where should TLOU go from here?

NO WHERE!!! No sequels!! The great thing About the LAst of Us is it is NOT a sequel. It is an original game.  It is a self contained story, with a beginning middle and end.

By definition alone sequels are inferior films/games.   I found myself cariing and greatly affrected when I thought Joel was dead. It depressed me and the whole downtrodden mood of the game got me down.  Being that it is a self contained story and not a franchise, I believed the could hav e the main character die.

I felt sad as well all the while fighting my way to Ellie at the end I had a bad feeling that by the time I got through the Fireflies and got to her, she would already be dead.  This game has an overwhelming sense of hopelessness, so I was prepared for a bad ending.  We kind of got one, becauase there  was no cure produced.  If they make a sequel, they will never be able to put me on such an emotional roller coaster like they did with the original.  It will be cheaper, and weaker.  They should end strong . This is the End of the PS3's life, so they should end on a high note.  If sony forces Naughty Dog to make a sequel, they should make it focused on all new characters and leave Joel and Ellie out of it.  Otherwise, the whole thing will jump the shark.

Are you trolling? How is it "wrong" to use the tools the developers purposely gave you?

I have to say he isn't...I'm on my third playthrough on Easy (stayed on easy to keep my gear upgrades, etc). My next playthrough will be on hard with hearing turned off. It will be much more intense!

It would also be more intense if you palyed the game blindfolded.  On the otherhand playing the game with listen mode off makes you a damn fool.  Your enemies are sensitive to every sound you make, and get your general location from those sounds. Having Joel playing without listen  mode is generally roleplaying Joel as a deaf mute.  In real life , you can get somebodies general location by listening closely. Listen mode simultes that. Taking that away actually takes AWAY from the immersion.  One of the great things about this game is the AI and the AI is trained to listen for sound. If you step on a bottle, brick, twig, or broken plates, the enemies will hear it and get your general location.  That's one of the things that put this game over the top for me.

Wow, that was indeed the most moronic post i have seen in a long time. Stick on a pair of headphones, dont have to be top end ones and you know EXACTLY where any of the games enemies are, even when you cant see them. Even better, a surround system would be better of course. The "listening" mode in this game is simply a hand holding device. Most games implement something to make the game experience easier even tho it detracts from the experience. As for playing Joel as a deaf mute, wow. Like i said, i played through on Hard, no listening mode and had ZERO problems pinpointing the exact whereabouts of any enemies throughout the entire game. Its OBVIOUSLY going to add to the tension if you can hear an enemy, knowing their position but cant magically see them through the wall and your "blindfolded" quip holds no water and is simply moronic, point been it would NOT make playing more intense, infact would kill any tension because, well, you couldnt see and have zero idea whats going on, so would just be an annoyance if anything. Like i said, IF (and it is an if because some people just want to blow through some games to see the story, nothing wrong with that) you want to not only get your moneys worth for this game and get the best experience and again, to me, how the game should be played, play on hard with listening mode off. If you own a set of headphones and lets be real, nowadays we all do, or should, i guarantee you will have NO problem knowing the whereabouts of enemies that you cant see, but obviously you dont know if their stood still or moving, which only amps up the tension a whole lot more. Do you round that corner now, knowing theirs a clicker close to it, hoping its goin the other way, or do you creep up real slow till you get a good angle and stick your head around the corner for a quick glance. OR, do you press a button, magically see through the wall and say, meh, will wait till its 100% safe. Its up to you guys, but i know which i would choose in ANY game.

To finish, if you are having trouble recognising enemies whereabouts from sound alone, i would implore you to get your hearing checked. Anyone who says it makes Joel a deaf mute is simply hearing impaired, a liar or yes, a troll.

^^^ Wow a typical GamefaQS TWIT.  YOU DON'T KNOW A DAMN THING ABOUT THE GAME . YOU ARE A SIMPLE MINDED SHORT SIGHTED  CRETIN.  iF YOU PUT HEADPHINES ON IT would not replace listen mode , SIMPLY BECAUSE nAUGHTY dOG DIDNT SUPPORT THE GMAE TO SUPPORT HEADPHONES IN THAT MANNER.  ND did NOT program in floorboards creaking. ND di NOT program in gravel being shifted. ND did NOT program in footsteps, and ND did NOT program in someones breathing or their clothes rustling when they walk. ALL THOSE THINGS ARE WHAT JOEL IS SIMULATED HEARING IN LISTEN MODE.   If you put on headphones you wouldnt magically hear all those ambient noises listed above, so your idea is as worthless as your post.

So I say again you have to be a RE-RE to say they should take out listen mode or listen mode is some kind of cheat. Shut up, go re-enroll back to the high school you obviously dropped out of and get an education.   Even that probably wouldn.t help you, because you were born without common sense. We are all victims of our own gene pools, and someone obviously peed in yours.

[QUOTE="taylom2222"]How are you going to trash the story when you haven't even completed the game? That's an easy way to discredit anything you have to say. jesseandnikki

I have completed it.

Play on Hard with Listening mode turned OFF. If you're playing this any other way, you are doing it wrong.psycadelix

You've got to be a re-re to not get all the Hype. One , it has hype because it's a Playstation exclusive, so Sony is going to throw all the money they can into development. 2 it's made by Naughty Dog, arguably the best in house deveopler at Sony.  It's an awesome game. One things that makes you a dunce is why  are you commenting on the story if You havent even finished the single player mode? You sound like an ass. It's Like going to see the Sixth Sense, only watching  45 minutes of it, and going to a party and tell everyone the movie sucked. Are you dumb? Finish the game first. One it makes you look foolish posting out of complete ignorance.  2 you run  the risk of somebody telling you spoilers in this forum , ruining the game for you.

It's a different type of game. Excellent production Value,  great writing, great music.  It does NOT have Quick timer events. You just sound stupid.  You struggle to get people off you, in realtime gameplay, and  continue fighting in realtime after you shove them off.  You are a twit if you think THAT is a quick timer event.   A QUICK TIMER EVENT is like in Shenmue , where it is a CUTSCENE THAT YOU CONTROL THE OUTCOME OF THROUGH BUTTON PRESSES, ALA DRAGONS LAIR. If you fail, YOU REPEAT THE CUTSCENE AGAIN AND AGAIN. THERE are NO CUTSCENES that repeat with button press outcomes in this game. So stop lying, you ignorant XBOX fanboy.    Go play a dudebro shooter like COD or even Uncharted if you want to kill everything in sight.  This is a different type pf game. Yes it is like Manhunt because it's a stealth game.  But its more a survival horror stealth game, and that hasnt been done before.

To some it up, Pre-launch the hype comes from it's Naughty Dog Uncharted Pedigree and it's one of the last great PS3e releases.

POST LAUNCH, the hype come from the word of mouth over the great story.  The "WALKING DEAD" vibe you get from a the game, and the UNEXPECTEDLY GREAT MULTIPLAYER.  I wasnt expecting multiplayer AT ALL for this game. Not only does this game have multiplayer, but it's almost as good as the single player.  The story was so good for this game, the Staff at IGNANDGAMESPOT each actually sat down and FILMED a NEARLY HALF HOUR DISCUSSION about The Last of US'  story alone . I NEVER saw them do that about HALO's story, or Bioshock, or Mass Effect, or Metal Gear.   The Last of Us is a landmark in games as an artform.   Greg Miller said he actually cried at one point in the game. LOL I never felt like crying, but i did feel immense sense of hopelessness  and sadness because how bleek the world was.  I felt sad and depressed at certain points, I won't give them away because it might spoil the story for you.  I actually started to care about the fates of the characters. That rarely happens for me playing a video game.

Here's the thing about story mode. Sega won't do it. They are too single minded. They assemble a fight game dev team that is 100% talented in fighting game development. They don't give a cramp about story, and they spend their whole budget on balancing and perfecting the gameplay. They won't do it any other way. They want every last dollar of their budget spent on making it the best fighting game it can be. As good as VF games turn out , I can't argue with this methodology. I would like a story mode , but I can live without it. Just like some players of adventure games would like a multiplayer mode, but would live without it if it meant the dev team put out the best single player mode they can. Look at the VF 5 pachinko game ( clips are on YouTube). It's full of VF5 characters in cinemas. It makes it obvious Sega is capable of putting together cinematic s, Sega AM2 team simply doesn't want to. They think cinemas belong in a different type of game, like the Pachinko game. I think, Given Sega's mentality on the subject. Sega should make a Shenmue type game every two years focusing on a different VF character. That is the dream : and adventure game with cinemas, and cool, VF type fighting . I was at Sega Cup this year and everyone was hoping VF6 would get an announcement there. Unfortunately that didn't happen. What do I want for VF 6? A more balanced game for one: end the Jacky flipkick BS . Fix the god Damn hit boxes ( Gohs 3PP and others) . Get rid of the tracking strings. If part of your string gets evaded you should be at -4 because it takes you time to pivot and turn . Don't do anything more to Satisfy n00bs . N00bs should go play something else. Put in more bosses. Bring back Yu Suzuki as executive game director and producer. Katagir and Osaki aren't running VF into the ground, per se, but it is clear after VF 5 and Final Showdown that they don't have any new original ideas. They are either only anding minimal new gameplay elements or swapping in and out old ones.

No TC is right the sound effects and some of the voices (announcer) were . The announcers voice especially, it's a necessary evil of it being a digital download. Still love the game anyway.
