Don S. Davis of STARGATE passes away

Don S. Davis, the 65-year-old actor who played General George Hammond on STARGATE SG-1, died of a massive heart attack on Sunday morning, June 29, 2008. It is his wise and kind image that I chose as my avatar at If you wish to honor his memory, please make a donation to the American Heart Association.

EW's Best Sci-Fi 25

Entertainment Weekly has done an interesting list of the 25 best science fiction movies and TV shows of the past 25 years called The Sci-Fi 25. I think most of the selections are pretty good, but I wish there were a few more ground-breaking TV shows included like Babylon 5, and a few less strange movies included like the recent Children of Men, which I found neither conceptually nor visually interesting. And I expect many will quibble with their choice of the top spot, which went to The Matrix.

Will we ever see the rest of Day Break released on DVD?

"Day Break" was cancelled by ABC after airing only 6 of the 13 episodes. They said they were going to post the rest of the episodes on their website, but now have postponed that indefinitey, and besides not all of us have broadband connections that would make it easy to download the episodes. I wondered what the likelihood is that they will eventually let us see the rest of the story by releasing the whole series on DVD. So I took a look back at previous premature cancellations. For the 2005-2006 TV season. 14 dramas were ended after fewer than 10 episodes, or with several episodes left in the can. Of these 14, only 3 have been released on DVD, so the chances are not good. Here is the list: Bedford Diaries ( 8 / 8 ) Book of Daniel ( 4 / 8 ) on DVD E-Ring ( 14 / 20 ) The Evidence ( 8 / 8 ) Head Cases ( 2 / 6 ) Heist ( 5 / 6 ) Inconceivable ( 2 / 9 ) Just Legal ( 3 / 8 ) Killer Instinct ( 9 / 13 ) Night Stalker ( 6 / 10 ) on DVD Reunion ( 9 / 13 ) Sex, Love and Secrets ( 4 / 10 ) Threshold ( 9 / 13 ) on DVD Tuesday Night Book Club ( 2 / 8 ) The encouragng thing is that 2 of the 3 shows that WERE released are science fiction or fantasy, so Day Break might have a better chance than most.
