It's silly that people are only making articles about this now when these ban waves have been happening since the early days of ARR and are also largely ineffective at actually addressing the botting issues.

The bulk of these accounts being banned are expendable gil farmers that don't go past A Realm Reborn and use hacks to speed through the story quests and dungeons in order to rake in as much gil as possible and transfer it elsewhere before the next ban wave goes out. They then are replaced by new accounts almost immediately afterward and the cycle continues ad infinitum.

These guys are not the main problem, though. That would be the level-capped bots that resort to more conventional methods of making gil like gathering and crafting who monopolize/manipulate the economy, which screws over all of the legitimate gatherers and crafters in the process. However, SE virtually never bans them because as outwardly obvious as they can be to actual players, whatever detection methods they rely on don't seem to be catching them.
