@vadagar1 "stop deleting my comment GS I I swear to god I will keep copy pasting it here till the end of time"

In other words: "Ban me failing to adhere to the community guidelines."

You have a couple of valid points - too bad it's buried under such vitriol.

@Maxwell Thanks for your honest tagline!

[quote]

While Maxwell's familiarity with Strider doesn't extend past the Marvel vs. Capcom series, he still knows a good hack-and-slash game when he sees one. After burning through this enjoyable adventure, he is excited to go back and discover the classic games that made this character a gaming icon.

@meatz666 And that's one of my hopes for this controller design -- I'll know if my fingers drift out of the trackpad area.

My worry is that fast or series inputs (eg inputs for fighting games or the Contra code) will be misread because I won't know that my thumb isn't far enough to the right to register as a "right" input.

Again, I'll wait until I can spend quality time with the controller before passing judgement; I'm cautiously optimistic.

I am dubious of the dual trackpads in lieu of physical buttons. I've played a number of iPad games that use a "virtual gamepad" (a circular area for one thumb to track character movement input, another circular area for the other thumb with button icons for character control input (eg jump, shoot)), and my thumbs have consistently drifted outside of the designated input area. The result of this tactile-less input scheme was that my character would not respond to desired inputs, and I have to stop paying attention to the game to reposition my thumbs. After enough deaths/losses from wrestling with the controls, I've stopped playing any game that uses a virtual gamepad; it was too frustrating.

The control scheme for Dungeon Defenders (on iOS and Android) is a prime example of virtual gamepad. The game needs timely, precise inputs, and "drifting thumbs" results in missed button presses. Ditto Metal Slug 3.

One advantage of physical buttons is they constantly help the player realign their thumbs/fingers to the optimal position. We can feel when our thumb is hitting too high or low on a button, and easily adjust for the next button press.

All that said, I'm still willing to give the Steam controllers a shot. File me in the "cautiously optimistic" camp; I'm reserving my final judgement until I can spend quality time with them.

I consider "Volume 3: The Soundtrack" to actually be a sampler of the music included in the game.

While "Volume 1: Original Music" might include all of the new (non-score) music in GTA V, the laughable-titled "The Soundtrack" is missing over 100 other licensed music tracks that are included in the game.

I'm guaranteed to get music I won't like, regardless of whether I buy the existing music set or wait for a more complete box set. But with a box set, I'll get a lot more music and a better audio representation of the game. For the 7-disc Vice City set, I popped all the CD's in my sound system and hit shuffle. I didn't care for some of the songs, but that's OK: a new one would come up in a few minutes. It was a lot like when I played Vice City.

I find the paltry selection of music to be disappointing, especially when compared to the 7-disc Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Official Soundtrack Box Set (which, despite spanning 7 CD's, was still missing some music that was included in the game).

"Gamers who already purchased Guardians of Middle-earth for either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 are eligible for a free download of the PC version."

YES! More of this customer-friendly service, please!

This deal doesn't apply to me (don't own a 360 or PS3, much less a console version of this game), but I'm seriously considering buying the PC version just to support the publisher/developer for this fine example of gamer-friendly service.

@Scorpion1813 @Zidaneski

Perhaps you're thinking of DOTA2?

League of Legends is still charging for individual heroes, as indicated by this recent news post from the LoL website:

"Day one, if you want to buy our game, buy it. You own it." - Ken Lobb

Ken, what happens when your company takes the account-validation servers offline? Can I still get to all the characters and other DLC goodies that I "own"?
