Awaking from Slumber

by on

It has been a long time since I used to be an active user of this site. I suddenly lost interest in gaming since I was unable to play games for an unknown reason.

Now, it seems like I'm finally cured of this ilness as I have finally been able to play for extender periods of time. It all started last week when I finally decided to buy a 3DS along with Pokemon Y. The last version of Pokemon I played was Pearl and I've been very pleased with the new version.

The 3DS also came with Super Mario 3D Land preloaded, which I originally thought was going to be a bad game. Luckily, the game turned out to be the opposite and I've also had a lot of fun with it. I look forward to getting more 3DS games.

Now, yesterday was Haloween and I've been celebrating past Halloweens by playing horror games and watching horror movies. I had the same idea for this year. So, I decided to get Deadlight and Condemned: Criminal Origins from the Steam Halloween Sale. As I got home yesterday, I decided to start off by playing Deadlight. I played for nearly 3 hours until the game got so frustrating I had to stop. Unfortunately, this disengaged me from playing for a little time as I was really upset.

A few hours later, I decided to give Dead Space a try, since I had it on my origin collection from the Origin Humble Bundle. I enjoyed playing through the 3rd chapter and will strive to finish the game during this weekend.

I'm happy to finally be able to play games again. Now, I'll struggle a bit as I try to make time for my hobbies as I've recently returned to play MTG and also got an invite to the Hearthstone beta, which has been very fun. I look forwards to becoming active in this site again and playing with you down the road.

The Walking Dead save file missing

by on

Hi everyone,

Over the past few days, I had spent some time playing episode 1 and 2 of The Walking Dead game. So far, I had enjoyed the experience. Today, I tried to continue from where I left only to find that my save file was missing.

At first, the game didn't even want to start. After verifying the cache, I was able to get it to run again but then I found my progress was missing.

As a fan of the TV series, I was really looking forward to beating this game. For the time being, I will push this game to the back of my backlog in hopes that it will be patched so that I can play it free of bugs in the near future.

I remember reading on Steam recent news for this game about game breaking bugs and refund requests (its still there as of now). Back then, I was happy I hadn't experienced these issues. Now that it's happenned to me, I'm a bit upset but mostly disappointed after reading how TellTale Games is not responding to any bug reports, based on their forums.

As I said before, I will be moving into other games for now. My free time is very limited these days and I can't afford to waste time replaying the first two episodes at the moment. Hopefully when I get back into it the bugs have been fixed or modders have come out with a solution.

My Winter Purchases

by on

As is usual in the PC market, several DD sites offered huge sales. This is what I bought this year from these Winter sales:

  • Borderlands 2 + Season Pass + Mechromancer Pack
  • King's Bounty Warriors of the North Valhalla Edition
  • Alan Wake's American Nightmare
  • Wrath of the Lamb DLC for The Binding of Isaac
  • Closure
  • Crysis
  • Crysis Warhead
  • Darksiders Franchise Pack
  • Lone Survivor
  • Need for Speed: Undercover
  • Serious Sam 3 BFE Digital Deluxe Upgrade + Jewell of the Nile DLC
  • Torchlight 2
  • The Witcher 2 EE
  • FIFA 13
  • The Walking Dead

I bought most of these games when they were on daily deals from Steam or heavily discounted from other sites.

I'm very happy with the purchases I made, even though I bought less games compared to the previous year. Now, all I need is to find some time to play through all this games.

Did you get anything on this Winter's sales? If so, let me know in the comments.

Happy 2013, everyone!

Steam's Halloween Sales

by on

Hi everyone,

We're just around the corner for Halloween, and Steam, in its usual fashion, has started its themed sale.

There are several good games up for sale including Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Penumbra, FEAR, among other titles.

This year I got Fallout 3 GOTY and FEAR. I had already played both games but I wanted to have them for PC.

Are you getting anything this year? If so, let me know in the comments below.

Happy Halloween!

Upgrading to Windows 8: First Impressions

by on

Hi everyone.

Today I decided to upgrade my OS to Windows 8.

I was not enthusiastic about Windows 8 in the first place. I first tried it with a very early leak and wasn't surprised by it, however, much has changed since. I didn't try the Customer Preview.

As a technology aficionado, I decided to upgrade so that I could determine by myself, whether the new version of Windows is worth it or not.

To upgrade, I simply went into Microsoft's Windows 8 site and downloaded a program to determine if my computer was ready for Windows 8. The test took a long time to finish, around 15 minutes, and in the end I was presented with a list of programs that were not compatible with Windows 8. Only 2 programs where not compatible, one was my antivirus software, Avira, and the other was an Asus tool. I uninstalled both applications and went on with the instalation.

The installation process took around 15 minutes as well, which is around the same time Windows 7 takes to install. After that, the computer restarted and Windows started setting up devices among other stuff. This last part was painfully long, lasting around 30 minutes.

After the OS was finally ready to use, I set up my account and then logged in to my Windows Live account so that I could access the Windows Store. Once I was done settings my preferences, the new Windows interface came up.

It is important noting that when upgrading from Windows 7, you're able to keep all your files and programs. This worked flawlessly for me.

At first I was feeling lost. I had trouble finding some options like Control Panel since the start menu is gone. After playing with it for a while, I found everything I needed.

I then visited the Windows Store and downloaded some applications like Netflix and Wikipedia. These apps are not must haves but they simplify the process of having to go to a webpage to access information.

So far, I like the feel of the new interface. I sure do miss the start button, however, the new interface is intuitive to use. While the interface was certainly designed with touchscreens in mind, it is still useful for us desktop users.

At the moment, I find it to be a pleasant experience. I haven't had any issues with any of the games on my Steam library, nor did I have any problems with drivers.

If you're looking to upgrade, I'd strongly recommend you do it now. Microsoft is offering a special price for people upgrading from Windows XP, Vista or 7. If you're still not sure about it, then wait a bit. As most things, the OS will get better with time and maybe then you'll be convinced to upgrade.

Feel free to leave any questions about Windows 8 on the comments section below. I will try to answer as soon as possible.

Regards.

Must be getting old...

by on

It's been a while since I've gamed "properly".

Before, I would usually play all days, even if just for small sessions (2 hours minimun). Now, I'm at a point when even in my free time, I can't get myself to play anything.

I have over 30 unfinished games in Steam and I can't get myself to play any of them.

I tried playing Skyrim for the last month but whenever I open the game, I just play for 20 or 30 minutes and then just close it.

The last game I could play for hours was Diablo 3 and that was until I beat it. After that, no other game has caught my attention.

This could be due to some recent changes in my life, like moving in to a new place and taking a different shift at work. I don't know.

Anyway, any tips you can share to get me back to gaming?

My experience with the Diablo 3 Beta so far...

by on

Last Thursday I was granted access to the Diablo 3 beta. So far I've done 3 runs with 3 different classes: first with the monk, then the barbarian, and, finally, the demon hunter. I'm currently in my 4th run, this time with a Witch Doctor.

The most fun class to play from my experience with the beta, so far, would be the barbarian. It feels great to be able to take on groups of enemies with relative ease.

The other two classes were also fun to play. The monk is great because it still allows you to engage with groups of enemies without worrying much. The Demon Hunter, however, requires that you place traps and move a little back to attack from range, which is also great but gets tiresome after a while.

The Witch Doctor seems kind of weak for me at the moment, yet the class has some interesting abilities that make it entertaining to play.

Within the next few days I should have completed the beta with all five classes and, after that, I'm going to focus on getting all my characters to level 13 (which if I remember right is the level cap for the beta) and then I'll move on to try the network mode (which I haven't tried so far).

The beta will go down on May 1st.

My overall experience with the beta was a positive one. I do like the way the game feels and looks although there is still room for improvement (key bindings, for example). I'm almost sure the game will be great and I'm looking forward to it more than ever.

See you on the game on May 15th!

My personal GOTY

by on

The year is pretty much over and I'd like to share with you my own personal GOTY: Serious Sam 3: BFE.

This game is a blast, especially when played coop with friends. The amount of enemies on the screen at the same time without taking a hit on performance is one of the best things of this game. Graphics look good, music suits the game; I can't think of anything I don't like about this game other than it's length (the game is really short).

Anyway, this is just my personal opinion and I wanted to share it with fellow Gamespotters. If anyone wants to play Serious Sam 3: BFE with me, leave your Steam IDs on the comments or PM me.

Hope you all have a great new year!

Finally built my gaming PC!

by on

I had been wanting to build myself a gaming PC for quite some time now. Yesterday, I decided to do it and I'm pretty happy with my new PC.

Here are the specs:

-Asus M599X Evo Mobo
-AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition
-ECS GTX560 Ti
-8GB DDR RAM
-Seagate 500GB Sata III HDD.

With this computer I might just skip playing multplats on consoles and focus most of my time on the PC.

Back to playing World of Warcraft

by on

Yesterday marks my return to playing World of Warcraft. I managed to get a group of coworkers to play it and now I'm back at it.

It's been fun so far. I bought the Wrath of the Lich King expansion so that I could create a Death Knight. I hope to be raiding soon.
