Burnout is needing to take a nap to make up for the sleep you've lost to gaming addiction over the last few weeks...

I build my own PCs. That makes them less expensive, assuming you don't goof it up. And I have been doing it every 3-4 years since 1989 (back when the Computer Shopper was the only way to do mail-order and building your own PC was a much bigger adventure prior to places like Newegg). Of those I have built, I did indeed put one together simply because I wanted it for a game. It was a 486-33 built for a Wing Commander release - and it was epic fun. Hehe, that was back when a jpeg took like 3 minutes to draw on the display and a lot of folks prefer 256 color GIFs. EM

The talk of bugs has kept me from jumping in. Has it gotten pretty stable, or should I wait for another patch or three? I've got plenty of games to play, so no great rush, but it is reasonably stable... EM

[QUOTE="Smug_Duckling"][QUOTE="kramer_inc"]

Fallout 3 big let down for me never bother to finished it. :(

ArchonOver

Maybe it's because I never played the original Fallout games but I thought that Fallout 3 was an amazing game. From a fresh perspective into the series, I thought it actually wasn't that bad. I usually pick up games a while after they've been out so I don't really get excited as soon as the game hits the shelf.

It is because you've never played the first two. It's like going from fancy, expensive resturants to McDonalds.

Yeah, Fallout 3 sucked so much that it got game of the year awards and sold extremely well. It sold so well, in fact, that it's follow-up was cast from the same mold. I played Fallout I & II when they were originally released. They were awesome games. Fallout 3 was a worthy successor and did a lot of things to advance the series. Totally different from the first two, but well done. FWIW, I still haven't gotten New Vegas... yet. EM

Ok, I played DCUO over the 3-day weekend. Got a hero to 15 and a villian to 14. First, you cannot survive solo with button mashing. You are actually going to need to pull off some combos to win fights against 3 tougher NPCs or a mini-boss fight. Your DPS is too slow to survive otherwise. It is really pretty cool to chain 3 or 4 different combos and to do it in a controlled fashion. For launch week, things went pretty smoothly until today. The server that I was on had instancing die and this started forcing people to log off and log back on which caused the queue to get ugly. It was over after 2-3 hours, so it was not horrible, just annoying. And that was the worst of it - everything was surprisingly stable and responsive otherwise. SOE should be pretty proud of the condition of the game at launch. Best part of the game - voice acting and cut scenes. Super-high production values here. Even if you play the game for a few months and quit, you are going to get your money's worth just in the plots, idle chatter, and speeches. Worst part of the game - the social tools are crap. MMO's should be about communication and this is akin to having an in-game telegraph.... Seriously lacking. Anyhow, I like the combat model quite a bit - it is breath of fresh air. It feels good to stick a clutch combo :) EM

Did some reading... Combat is action based (twitch or semi-twitch, I suppose) and the game has full x-box controller support. Sounds good to me - I enjoy controller support when it makes sense and in a game where movement and action are core elements, a controller often does a better job at securing immersion than a mouse and keyboard. Anyhow, I bought it once I saw the comments about the controller support (few MMOs go this route) and hope that it works as an action fix. Movement + combat + gamepad = geeky fun. EM

Farcry 2 was a stumble which is why there will be few squeals... Hopefully this one has a good sandbox environment intermixed with strong scripted events. EM

It might have been more fitting to ask if it were a CHAMPIONS ONLINE killer or a City of Heroes/Villians killer. Having a 3rd super hero game is painful... EM

M&B seems to have a lot going on, with the combat being somehwhat lackluster.Uncle_Uzi
I am not aware of a game that does a better job with mounted combat or sword play, mounted or on foot. The game has a number of other problems, but it's strength is how well it does combat. EM

Gina Carano who was in C&C:Red Alert 3. Previous role was Krush on American Gladiators, I think. What I like about her is that she has been in a number of MMA fights and can probably beat the heck out of anyone else mentioned. She is rare in that she looks the part because she can kick butt. EM
