Card Hunter is a great turn-based strategy game with RPG mechanics. http://live.cardhunter.com/

Been playing the hell out of Loadout, a new Steam F2P game. Awesome shooter that reminds me of Quake/UT in the fast-paced twitch arena genre. Just plain fun.
Definitely. I've been playing it on and off during open beta. It's a great game if you're really into experimenting with different character builds, there's so many different ways to do things. It's not a casual game, it's purposefully targeted towards the hardcore aRPG crowd, that's why a lot of people are turned off by it.
Felipe, if you're missing in the beginning, it's because there's an accuracy rating. You will swing slow and miss quite often in the beginning until you get decent gear and/or use certain gems/passive skills.
The dev team behind the game is great, and the game will only improve moving forward. It's also one of the best examples of "free to play" done right.
I will be starting in the new default league that has a new economy. Everyone starts at zero there.
If I had to guess, it would be PoE, just because their dev team is 4-5x as big as Grim Dawn's.
MMOs:
Guild Wars 2 (buy it, but no subscription)
Rift (F2P, minor restrictions)
Lord of the Rings Online (if you like the LOTRO universe, it's slower-paced. F2P, will eventually have to pay a little unless you like grinding a lot)
FPS:
Team Fortress 2 (free, and great, multiplayer-focused)
Bioshock series (single player, story-driven focus)
Borderlands 1/2 (single player or co-op, skill/loot-based focus)
MOBA:
Dota 2 or League of Legends. Both are F2P (Dota 2 has better F2P system). They're both good games. If you're new to the genre, LoL is much easier to learn, but Dota 2 will be more rewarding in the end if you put in the effort (chess vs. checkers). Not everyone likes the genre, though.
Tower Defense:
Defense Grid (best TD)
Plants Vs. Zombies
Defender's Quest (some RPG mechanics)
Orcs Must Die 2 (action-oriented)
RPGs:
Skyrim (fantasy, great mods available)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (sci-fi/cyberpunk)
Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas (post-apocalyptic, great mods available)
Dark Souls (difficult, action-focused, no hand-holding)
Action RPG:
Bastion
Path of Exile (F2P) Besides Dota 2, one of the best examples of F2P done right.
Titan Quest (great mods available)
Strategy:
Civilization V
Crusader Kings II
Puzzle:
Portal 1 and 2
SpaceChem (hard as hell, but VERY rewarding)
Rogue-like:
Binding of Isaac
Faster Than Light
Dungeons of Dredmor
There are a lot of other good games too, but these are just some to get you started. A lot of these games will be on sale during the Steam summer sale (50%-90% off), which should start soon (within the next month, possibly this week).
You can progress faster by spending cash.xsubtownerx
That is completely incorrect, and if you played the game, I'm surprised you'd make such an uninformed statement.
Besides Dota 2, Path of Exile is the best example of F2P done right. You can't buy anything resembling power. It's also a great game if you like action RPGs with a focus on loot and different character builds.
There's going to be another BIG update, probably at the end of next month. The game will most likely go on a 50%-75% sale at that time, so I'd wait until then. You'll get to enjoy even more content at a cheaper price.
FTL (Faster Than Light) : $5
Dark Souls : $15
Bioshock 1 & 2: $5
Can't go wrong with either game, but GW2 will offer a lot more hours than X-Com, if bang for your buck is your primary concern.
