First of all.. The modern story line is just pure crap.. In AC and AC II it was very promising but since Brotherhood the whole Desmond - Ancient Gods story line just spinned out of control and was very bad executed! (Every Desmond sequence was just awefull) The gameseries would have been so much better if it didn't have this modern componement. There were tons of different ways they could have tied the series together without this farfetched animus crap.
(I loved the plot introduced in AC II with Those Who Came Before and the plot of Assassins vs Templars. But the whole saving the world, Desmond being in a coma and Juno plot are just too crappy for words.)
Besides that I too havethe feeling that the series is more than ever a series like Call of Duty. Forced to be published every year for the most profit. It's truly being milked out.
Besides this I still love the series and AC III was awesome... but the story and the whole modern day crap just became too much to bare.
I love the series but it has been flawed since it start but we only began to notice it since Brotherhood.
I won't buy Assassins Creed IV and probably wait to get it from someone else. It's the first AC game I won't buy on release since AC II since I really want to wait to look what direction the series is taking before I decide to spend more money on it.
