I think you're missing the bigger picture here, this is an arcade fighting game. The Iconic characters of the series are characters like Heihachi & Kaz, Nina, Paul, Law, Yoshimitsu, King and a few others.

Yes the Mishima's and Kazamas are seen as main character but I think you're forgetting, 99% of Tekken players or people who have previously played Tekken pay no attention to the storyline, and pay more attention to the classic characters which stand out. When I say Tekken, the first thing that comes to peoples mind is a fighting game, with a wrestler in a jaguar max, a space ninja, a crazy ass flipping bruce lee guy, a blonde assassin and some guy who's hair stands up. They don't think of a dysfunctional family who does anything they can to kill eachother and start huge wars.

Please link the article which says the characters will be $4 each. Just a reminder, you're not being forced to buy all the characters.
