I was really looking forward to it, then I boot it up, and uh oh, you can't see anything! There's no brightness options, and increasing the brightness on my moitor doesn't help. So basically, you need to buy the right monitor for this game. You can't use your flashlight all the time as it runs out of power, and without it... I could be walking into a tree and wouldn't even know it.

I'm sorry Mr Hadley, I appreciate the effort, love the concept, but not everyone has the same hardware setup as you, and a simple brightness option would be great. It's rather annoying, I really want to play this and simply can't.

everyone is different, for me personally it's by far the best controller , it always bothers me to use something else

wraigth

But how often have you used something else? Have youa ctually owned a 360 or a gamecube and used the controller for an extended period? Thats pretty much when I realised how much better other controllers were lol

I've used all 3 controllers quite a bit, and yet I still prefer the PS3 controller. Though I have no problem going from one controller to another as they are all for the most part exactly the same, with the exception of the 360s terrible Dpad.

Yeah I definetly agree with that one, nasty d-pad on the 360 control. Thats why I'm avoiding buying one of those adapters to plug a 360 pad into my ps3. As much as I would prefer a 360 pad, I want to actually play fighting games and arcade style side scrollers with my PS3 lol (looking at you metal slug)

PS3 and 360 both have poor controllers in my book. The 360 controller has the world's worst d-pad, poor analog stick placement, and poor shoulder bumpers. The PS3 controller has a better (but still weak) d-pad put poor analog sticks and secondary triggers. famicommander

My ideal controller would probably take the 360 pad's body and triggers. Add the snes shoulder buttons as secondaries, and stick in a d-pad from a classic controller or a playstation pad. Nintendo has the best d-pad patent, but for some reason have had crummy d-pads since the snes. Though the classic controller one is rather nice...

I've argued about the awful left analogue stick placement on System Wars before, but people strangely disagreed with me.

I'll never understand why they had to place the primary movement controls at a 45-degree angle to where your thumb normally rests. They're the only company that makes that mistake, and it baffles me how they haven't corrected it yet.

Take a looka t this if you're interested http://www.game-over.com/gamenews/?p=6286

There's a few 3rd party PS3 pads designed for pro gaming, including an MLG one actually, which rectify alot of the ergonomic issues including the sticks. If pro gamers think there are issues, there probably are :P

I'm not complaining about going froma controller to a controller really. Had no issue going to a 360 controller, a gamecube controller, a Wii controller, or from snes to keyboard/mouse lol. I just find that now with the ammount of nice ergonomic controllers we have, Sony is lagging a little behind with the playstation pads. They haven't really been updated with modern ergonomic designs since the mid 90's. Here's hoping Nintendo doesn't go the same way with the Wii U controller XD

Hi guys, I just want to see the opinions here, because I'm unsure how this is even an argument. Having used a 360 for a while now, going back to the PS3 controller is... kinda hard.

There are a number of rather obvious problems with the PS3 pad compared to... well, the 360 and gamecube, being the only traditional competitors. Lets start by noting your right hand. On any controller, your right thumb will naturally rest on the face buttons, which have been placed there because it's the msot natural spot for your thumb to rest. The right stick is secondary. In the same way, your left thumb rests on the d-pad... which sadly is not the primary feature your left thumb will be dealing with. Sony realised this with the original PS1 controller, when they position the d-pad in that primary position, and then with the first Dual shock added a thumbstick in the secondary when they assumed the d-pad would continue to be the primary input. Sadly, this was never recitifed.

Keeping on the control sticks, they're convex. It isn't usually a problem, but the concave shape of the 360's sticks just gives you that bit extra grip when it's needed.

Moving on, the shoulder buttons, the digital ones are fine, but L2 and R2 are just... bad. First issue is some rather abdly done analogue control. Unlike the gamecube and 360 triggers, which slide smoothly with consistant resistance, the PS3 seems to have used a cheaper mechanism which appears to be some squishy resistive material? Similar to what they use to make thier analogue face buttons. Issue here is that the range of motion is far less then either the 360 or gamecube, and is inconsistant. Just a bad feel.

THis is compounded by the fact that for whatever reason they tilted the shoulder buttons backward. The gamecube had concave shoulder buttons, allowing your finger to rest inside them, no slipping at all there. The 360 has them curve upward to avoid the issue, which is fine as well. The PS3 actually tilts downwards making the issue even worse then if they'd done nothing. The fact a third party market has sprung up around selling little mods to fix this is telling.

Lastly the shape... It was good back in the 90's when we'd just come from the Snes. Hell, it is a snes pad, they've added two handles, but the body is modelled around a snes pad. Now go take a look at the 360/gamecube pads. Even the Wii's classic controller pad which is much closer to a PS3 control. The first two have shaped the entire body to rest comfortably in your hand, the last has shaped the handles. The PS3 on the other hand uses a standard snes style body with two small symetrical handles.

It's a little strange, after 3 generations of using playstation pads, the simple fact they never changed thier design has lead many people, myself included, to get rather used to it. However, after switching for a while and then trying to go back, it's night and day. Sony tried to fix these ergonomic issues with thier batarang controller, but obviously they went in a slightly odd direction. I'm hoping they try again for the PS4, as I would really like a controller as comfortable as what I've gotten used to on other systems now.

I'd just like to say, as you can see in the comments over there, a number of people are using the "It's digital so Microsoft didn't lose anything as these people wouldn't have purchased it anyway!". I understand that argument, and tend to agree it has standing with standard piracy, however these people seem to be rather... dumb and haven't actually thought through the situation. I figure I'd throw out some knowledge over here!

The people who used this hack did not make a copy of the game, as should be obvious for anyone with any ammount of common sense. They purchased the game of a system that requires payment. And who do you think pays the developer for that game? Why, Microsoft does! Using the money from that virtual currency you purchased... oh wait, you didn't, you hacked yourself some currency, looks like that money is comming from MS's pocket.

Duh, just thought I'd throw that out there.

wierd, I find thumb stick placment very important and I rather like it under where my thumb rests. I do agree though, the d-pad design is a hgue improvment. So close to my perfect controller though, PS3 d-pad with 360 thumbsticks. Or I'd possibly take a snes d-pad :P

You can see the original design on the right and the new design on the left. Notice how the original design had the thumbstick in the prominant position where your thumb naturlly rests, while the new design sticks a d-pad there. The only reason why a d-pad should go there is if the majority of your games are going to use it, however, the system is designed to play retail PC games which msotly use a thumb stick (well, mostly use a mouse, but you know what I mean).

I appreciate they removed the disc shaped pad, which the 360 has happily demonstrated isn't that great, but they didn't need to awkwardise the control stick position XD
