@nik_williams44 @DoubleclickTF @keithlemon Figure of speech. I mean "I don't want to live in the world that you are proposing", not a Professor Farnsworth death-wish!

Reporting is formed from some early hands-on opinions, and a lot of press releases straight from the makers. No, that is not enough. Reviews *are* reporting, and they're the most revealing kind of reporting. People have been writing reviews for centuries because it's a service that lots of people find useful. You act as though it's some newfangled aberration.

This review did not say it's impossible to have fun playing this game. He said it was a mixed bag, but ultimately repetitive, although the gameplay is good. How about *you* form your own opinions from that, and pick your way through the information? I've bought lots of games from reading reviews that were in the 6-7/10 region, but parsed the data provided and decided I'd enjoy them. The same with music LPs, some of which I've bought because of *bad* reviews where the writer's observations made me think, "Hang on... this sounds like it's right up my street". I have a Halo-obsessed friend who talks over all game dialogue because he's completely uninterested in story, which I find infuriating, and he's fine with repetitive grind. All he wants is a good gameplay mechanic that he can dip into for a couple of hours and have a blast. He could read this review and think, "Okay, no problem" and put his money down. That's a good review.

@Juan1988 Agreed, but although MSI's gaming laptops are among the best you can get I'd still go with a desktop PC and used the money saved on an even better GPU. You can build or buy great little mini-ITX and micro-ATX systems if you want something that's easy to move from room to room, and all you'd miss is the extra portability of a laptop for taking it out of the house.

@nik_williams44 I know how I'd feel, because I create work that gets reviewed in the international press. It's just me and one other person too, so when there's a bad review it's all on us.

And we're fine, because those people who don't like it are entitled to their opinion. We pay attention, because we hate to think of anyone handing over money for our work and feeling disappointed with what they received. So we listen, and we consider whether or not to take those views on board with our next project.

We don't have hurt feelings, but even if we did, our sadness would be the least important sadness in the world. Our customers' feelings are way more important.

@np3trop This would be a terrible review. There are games I love, games that I would put on my all-time Top Ten list, and yet if I was reviewing them I would not automatically give them 9s and 10s. I would include my enjoyment in the review, but I might only give the game a 7 if that's all it's worth to a broad readership.

@nik_williams44 @keithlemon "That should be up to the consumers who should not be led and/or influenced in any way."

So you're against developers being allowed to advertise, then? If you think it's okay to advertise but not okay for there to be professional writers expressing their opinions, I don't think I want to live in your world.

@crusaderprophet No, they're trying to help customers decide which of two games to buy in the commercial marketplace. They're not "brothers", they're products.

@lovely_dime You have good instincts; it is crap. Backed it on Kickstarter a year ago, played it tonight. Not worth playing even if you get it as a gift or something.

@djpetitte @DoubleclickTF Yeah, that spec announcement was a massive error. They were giving two approaches: one that they correctly called "minimum", and another that they inaccurately called "recommended". They talked about an 8-core i7 which wasn't even available when they made the announcement. I suspect they meant "8 thread" rather than "8 core", but whatever the case it was a stupid thing for them to say.

I'm using an SSD-based system, i5 4440, 8GB RAM and a GTX650Ti - not a high end system by any means. It's really the GPU that matters most here, and mine is not great, but this game is not a problem for it.

@djpetitte @berserker66666 It's never going to be perfected. This is Ubisoft we're talking about. Will the 780Ti owners ever see the frame rate they "should" get on AC4: Black Flag? No. Is it worth their while playing it anyway? Damn right. It looks lovely, it plays well.

@berserker66666 Things will never smooth out, I expect. I don't know what Ubisoft's problem is, but this happens a lot. Low end users like me get great results, while people with top tier cards complain about not getting a consistent 60+fps. I understand that this is frustrating, but at least we're all getting a better framerate than the consoles, and we're getting to play their games without buying consoles ourselves.

This might seem like kowtowing, but I lived through decades when there was almost no way you'd see a PC version of a console hit at all, and now we get them all the time. I'm pretty happy about that, so if the game isn't broken, and this one isn't, I'm not going to lose my shit over a less than optimal frame rate on a Titan (even if I had one).
