Dj-Dark-1 Blog

Well, it's been a while!

by on

Around 1 year and 4 months since I last made a blog post on Gamespot but here I am. I'm doing pretty well, I'm into my second half of my second year at university studying Computer Games (Software Development), it's going pretty good now; if you remember my last blog post from 2010 then you would remember I said I hated the course, it's starting to grow on me now. It's a short course, only being in 3 days a week - 2 of them, I'm only in 9 till 1 - and there's only around 9 weeks left before I finish for the summer. Right now in the course, I'm doing a 12 week coursework involving making a platform game between 6 people (2 programmers, 2 designers and 2 artists), it's only been 3 weeks in and it's already looking promising and up to speed so hopefully this project wouldn't drag me down under the next few weeks.

Regarding my gaming life, I'm starting to branch out a little and try different games, I never used to like FPS until I played Modern Warfare 2 and now I've tried a few more such as other CoD games and the surprisingly difficult Bioshock but now I'm really enjoying FPS and won't hesistate as much if one comes out and I'm unsure wether or not I would be any good at it. I've also said I would like to try RPG's so I bought Skyrim for Christmas and I got Fallout 3 around 2 weeks and still none of them have entered my xbox yet, I think Skyrim still has it's cellofane wrapper still around it; hah I'll get round to it. Lately, I've built up a huge to-do list of games, movies, tv shows, books over the past year and I've started going through them one at a time and trying not to buy anything new until I finish everything (which could be a long time away).

I've purchased quite a few other games over Christmas which I've yet to play or complete such as Mario Kart 7, Mario 3d Land, AC Revelations, Saints Row the Third and Batman Arkham City. I completed Arkham City within a few days after starting it, I really enjoyed it and to anyone who hasn't played it yet, I would highly recommend it to fans of the first game. Tv shows, I've started watching Heroes on Netflix (UK netflix is pretty poor), I also started watching How I met your mother over Christmas and the other day, I've finally caught up - watching 150 episodes within a few weeks I find is pretty impressive. I've still got other things to watch like the new season of Family guy & South park that I also got over Christmas.

So on Gamespot, how is everyone doing? I've recently set my blog back so anyone tracking me can view it instead of having to be friends, I know some people starting tracking me recently and I haven't been friends with them so they never seen my blog but hopefully they can get some insight into my life. I know I haven't been on Gamespot much, making no blogs and a whopping 13 whole forum posts in 2011, I do use GS to watch E3, read game reviews and casually browse the forums though so I might start making the odd forum post again here and there.

It's coming up to my 5th year on Gamespot anniversary soon (not including another account I made back in Jan 2006) and out of those 5 years, I've probably been active for around 1-2 of them but I have met some really good fun people and I don't know if they still remember me but if you do and are reading this ridiculously fun fact filled blog then feel free to send me a message or leave a comment if you want to chat/catch up or if anyone just wants to get to know me better then feel free to also message/leave a comment.

Kind regards,

Chris (I no longer like my username of Dj-Dark-1, I never use it for anything anymore :()

I hate university!

by on

Hey guys and girls, It's actually been a long while since I've made a few posts or even updated my blog on Gamespot but I've came back here to write a blog just to let you all know how I've been doing. Well since school had finished in June, I had around 14 weeks of summer holiday until university started in which time I planned on looking for a job but by planned I mean searched once, got nowhere and never tried again! So basically I spend 14 weeks doing nothing but it wasn't all bad, I turned 18 in June which in my country means you can go out drinking, so I went to the pub quite a lot and out to clubs.

So, around the start of August, I got my results from the exams I sat at the end of my school year, they were much better than I expected. Advanced Higher Maths: A, Advanced Higher Physics: B and Higher Chemistry: A. So I had no hassle getting into university with those grades and the grades I had already acquired from previous years. So with my last month left of my summer holiday I actually went back to gaming which I hadn't done in a while and completed quite a few games which I've had for months and never really played like Assassins Creed 2 and Darksiders, both were very enjoyable. I also purchased some new games throughout the summer such as Mario Galaxy 2 (Which I actually haven't played much of since it's basically the exact same as the original), Cod: Modern Warfare 2 (Which I love and have already sank about 10 days of my life into that game in 3 months) and a few arcade games such as Trials HD (Which I also love).

I was never really a Call of Duty fan or even a first person shooter fan and when I bought Modern Warfare 2, I thought I made a big mistake but now I've grown to love and suprisingly I'm really good online and can win the majority of free-for-all matches that I play. I've actually pre-ordered the new call of duty and I never pre-order games, that's just come to show how much I've grown to love Call of Duty.

As for games recently, I purchased Sonic & Sega All Star Racing which is also surprisingly pretty good and I'm close to completing the majority of the game now. I also bought Sonic 4 Episode 1 two days ago and completed it pretty fast and now I'm going back to get all the chaos emeralds and collect some achievements I missed out. It's a really good game for the sonic franchise but there isn't much for your money and you end up just feeling left out and disappointed once you complete (that really annoying) final boss.

Well back to university now, after a lot of fiddling about with student loans and having to register for my course and collect a student card etc, my course was about to start (This was about a month ago) and I thought it was going to be a good easy course (Computer Games: Software Development) since I already had my timetable and I have 2 days off a week. Now since the course has started (this is week 6), I actually hate it, the work is not bad but the lectures are really boring and I hate everyone in my course as they are really geeky and really annoying so I literally have no friends on my course (I still go about with people I went to school with for lunch), I really don't see this year getting any better but on the positive, this is week 6 and there is only 24 weeks so I'm quarter through the year already.

Well thanks for reading, hopefully I'll try and add some new blogs soon to keep you all up to date on my life,

Thanks, Chris.

EDIT: A while ago, a good friend of mine named ArmoredCore55 tagged me in a music game in which I've never wrote answers to. I know this is really out of date but it did sound fun when I first heard it and I still want to finish it. So here are the rules in case anyone has forgotten or not seen this before:
>Put Your iTunes (or other music player) on Shuffle.
>For each question, press the next button to get your answer.
>You must write down the name of the song no matter how silly it sounds!
>Put any comments in brackets after the song name.
So here we go:

1. If someone says, "Is This Okay?" You Say:
* Mother Lover - The Lonely Island feat. Justin Timberlake [Ok...]
2. How would you describe yourself?
* Uptown Girl - Billy Joel [Great song but doesn't really describe me since I'm not a woman!]
3. What do you like in a guy/girl?
* Man on the moon - R.E.M [A good quality but I could do without]
4. How do you feel today?
* Broken Heels - Alexandra Burke [Sure...]
5. What Is Your Life's Purpose?
* Careless Whisper - George Michael [Well, I guess I'm never gonna dance again]
6. What is your motto?
* It's a Sin - Pet Shop Boys [It's not but I'm thinking of making it my motto]
7. What do your friends think of you?
* Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley [Yes, I hope so.]
8. What do you think of your parents?
* Earth Song - Michael Jackson [I mean what have they done to the world!]
9. What do you think about very often?
* Handbags And Gladrags - Stereophonics [Ok, this game is physic.]
10. What is 2+2?
* Pon De Replay - Rihanna [No wonder, I failed maths.]
11. What do you think of your best friend?
* Just the way you are - Billy Joel [Pretty decent answer.]
12. What do you think of the person you like?
* Just Dance - Lady Gaga [They should be dancing more.]
13. What is your life story?
* Young Forever - Jay-Z feat. Mr Hudson [Yeah, if only.]
14. What do you want to be when you grow up?
* She will be loved - Maroon 5 [Ok, what?]
15. What do you think of when you see the person you like?
* Apologize - Timbaland feat. OneRepublic [I don't think I've done anything wrong.]
16. What will you dance to at your wedding?
* To the moon & back - Savage Garden [I would hope so since it's a great song.]
17. What will they play at your funeral?
* Heartbreaker - Will.I.Am [Nice title but the lyrics won't go.]
18. What is your hobby/interest?
* Ke$ha - Your love is my drug [Apparently love is my drug.]
19. What is your biggest fear?
* Bad Romance - Lady Gaga [Could be true, not experienced it yet.]
20. What is your biggest secret?
* Aerosmith - Walk this way [Let's keep this a secret.]
21. What do you think of your friends?
* Issues - The Saturdays [Could be true depending on the circumstance.]
22. What will you put as the title?
* I say a little prayer - Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. [Unfortuantely I have a better title in mind.]

I'm just fed up and bored! [Updated Social and Gaming Life]

by on

Well as many of you may know, I am in my final year of school and two out of the three subjects I do are classed at "Advanced Higher" level which is the highest level school's in Scotland will offer and is basically equivalent to first year university. Anyway, these subjects are extremely difficult (much harder than I originally anticipated) especially physics in which I have to write around a 2000 word minimum report based on 3 experiments. The worst part is, I have to have this done in 3 weeks which means write a first draft, hand it in, get it marked and get feedback, fix my report for a final draft and submit it. One problem is that I have never done a report this big especially on science and another problem is that the experiments didn't work too well with the equipment we have school so in my report, I am going to need to discuss why the experimental value didn't work out too well which I am rubbish at doing.

I'm just basically fed up with school now, I only have around 4 weeks to go and it doesn't matter on the results I get this year since I have 3 unconditional's for university (That means I get in no matter what I do this year), I feel like I have just given up. On a side note, I heard back from another university I applied to for a pure & applied maths course, I never got accepted. I'm actually quite surprised about this and so is my maths teacher, they never gave me a reason so I could phone up and ask for one which is what I might do. Back to my school days, on some days, I don't even bother to get up in the morning because 4 out of 5 days of the week I finish around 12-1 which means I need to walk home or just sit in the common room for 2 hours which is really boring. Especially walking home now, I do this 4 times a week (I've done it for around 9 months now) and it's around 30-40 minute walk for me and the weather has being much colder recently which has been a pain.

Another thing which has been annoying me recently is a feud I am having with one of my friends which is over nothing. He just over-reacts and the other day he wanted to ask me something (something which could have waited to the next day) so he left me 63 missed calls within the space of 2 hours (I left my phone in my school trousers  ) and when I finally got a hold of him, it was something stupid that he thought I said about him in school but he had mis-interpreted it. I mean, really some people just get on my nerves. The worst part is, he talks to me as nothing has happened but still looks at me funny like he thinks inside that he doesn't like me.

Now for some positive enlightenment in this blog, I got Pokemon HeartGold the other day and I am loving it. I haven't really played a pokemon game since Ruby & Sapphire and I thought I would never again but I loved Gold and now I am loving the re-make. For anybody wondering if they should purchase this game, I would definitely recommend it if you like Pokemon and you want a good adventure as this is probably the best pokemon game in my opinion by far. Another game, I have been playing a lot recently is an iPod/iPhone game called DoodleJump which is single-handedly the best iPhone game I have ever played. Sinking a total of about 15 hours in this game, it still doesn't lose its appeal and it's always a challenge to get the top score between me and my friends.

As for social life, it's still going good. I still haven't had any proper driving lessons yet but my dad has took me out a few times in his car to a private empty industrial estate where I have been learning to drive. I have been really enjoying to it and taking to it well so it won't be long before I am taking proper lessons and be sitting a test (Also I'm just about ready to sit a theory test which I have been studying for intently over the past few weeks). I have been out a few times over the past few weeks with my friends and have plans to go out for the next few weeks, we have been looking and discussing for something to do over the summer like a holiday together since school has finished and the majority of us will be 18 (including me :)) so I am really excited for that and I hope it goes somewhere.

Well, I hope you enjoyed reading this update and I hope everyone is doing well.

Thanks for reading,

Chris (Dj-Dark-1)

The 2010 report on what I have been doing.

by on

Well, it's been a long time since I've been on Gamespot so I think its about time you caught up with what I've been doing. I am currently in my final year of high school (Sixth year) and doing 3 subjects. Advanced Higher Maths & Physics and Higher Chemistry. Maths is really fun, easy and I'm enjoying it (I recently got an A (83%) for the prelim exam 2 weeks ago), Physics is really hard and the teacher is quite useless although he is great to talk to and it's just me and one other guy which is hilarious (We didn't do a prelim since we didn't have enough work required to do the prelim in time for January (Damn slow class)). Chemistry is terrible, it's hard, the teacher is rubbish and when I'm sitting in it, I feel so bored (I got a B for the prelim considering I was expecting to fail or get a C  ). Anyway school's a blast, I finish early every day apart from Friday, and Friday is a fun day anyway, it's just getting up early in the morning I don't like but if I stay in at home, there is nothing to do, nothing to watch and nobody to talk to so School > Home Alone :)

Gaming wise, I got two games for Christmas (Assassins Creed 2 and New Super Mario Bros Wii), me and my brother completed every level of mario bros within a week and I got to tell you: it's a great game. One of the funniest multiplayer games I have played in a while, that good that I might even write a review for it (Yes you heard me, review, me  ). Assassins creed is rather good as well but I haven't really played it much. Around sometime last wee, I found my ds that I haven't played in months so I loaded up Professor Layton: Diabolical box since I hadn't completed it and played it basically non-stop for a few days. Got to say, that's a great game as well and the ending was great and unpredictable (I won't spoil it but I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys puzzle games). Currently I'm doing going to play Assassins Creed and I might start playing Zelda: Spirit Tracks on the ds (My brother has it and says it's good so might as well give it a shot).

For social life wise, I've still never bothered booking a driving lesson but as you may have seen or heard on the news (Primarily if you live in Scotland or the United Kingdom), there's been a lot of snow and one the coldest winter's we've seen in years which is one of the reasons I've postponed doing much. I've seen a few films recently such as critically acclaimed one of the greatest films ever:Avatar, to be honest it wasn't that good and I didn't enjoy it neither did my friends (So I can't see why all reviews are calling it great and a must-see). In between all this, I have attended a few parties such as birthday's, random weekends and new year, all have been great and thoroughly enjoyable but my money is slowly draining down :'( I'll need to get a job but I'm just so lazy so I might leave it till the summer once school is finished and the weather is longer (I'm dreading it since I do no work at all, never worked and never do anything about the house).

I've applied to a few universities for once I leave school. I picked 5 courses (Pure mathematics, Applied mathematics, Web systems development, Computer Games: Design & Computer Games: Programming). I have received 3 unconditionals for all the computing based courses (which means it doesn't matter what grades I get this year, I'm guaranteed a spot). I'm still awaiting reply from the mathematics courses but I can't see why I wouldn't get unconditionals since I satisfy the needs for the course. As for which course I'm going to pick, I'm still between Pure Mathematics, Computer Games: Programming and Web Systems Development but I think I'm leaning more towards Computer Games: Programming which should be fun and enjoyable.

The year 2010, it's the start of a new decade and the start of a lot of new changes in my life such as finishing school, getting a job, starting university, starting driving lessons at some point, turning 18 in the summer and much much more. I just hope I can enjoy in my social life as much as I can in my online life (alias Dj-Dark-1).

Well, that's it.
I'm planning on maybe being a bit more active on this website but I can't guarantee much but anyway thanks everyone for reading and if you want to speak to me, just leave me a comment or shoot me a pm.

Thanks,

Chris.

Overdue Proper Update - School, Gaming, Real life etc...

by on

Well it's been a while since I have made a proper blog with good information and it's informative. (I wonder how many blogs I have started with the word "well"?) Anyway I started school over a week ago and I have went from having one subject to two. My Advanced Higher Maths class has started and there are only 4 people in it including myself. Physics hasn't started yet due to my teacher still being off as a family member died. That teacher came back yesterday and we talked for about 10 minutes about AH (Advanced Higher) Physics, the people doing it and the time to do it. Also I got my Physics grade back and I got 91% for the exam - Now that is great :D There are only two people wanting to do AH Physics and there is no proper time between us so me and this other guy need to work around our free class together and try and decide where Physics should go. This is turning out harder than expected as I never see this other guy about and when I got a hold of him he could only talk for a few minutes before going to class. Anyway I think our first period should be tomorrow in it.

The new school is rubbish albeit it is clean with new tables and chairs, there is only one proper entrance and exit (The fire escape sets off an alarm) so that makes it harder to go out during "free" periods and just go get something to eat or fresh air without a few teachers asking you were you going. Also chewing gum is banned and your not allowed to eat food in the corridors or outside. Also you can't take water into the corridor which is the most stupid idea ever since when is water going to stain the floors? Also our common room is rubbish, it's not even a room it's just a dent in the wall where people have stuck chairs and desks. You need to walk by it to get to P.E and it doesn't even have doors :? Worst of all, the head teacher comes in every half an hour or so to make sure your working and not talking or listening to the radio or playing games.

In gaming I have not much to report, I have not really played my xbox much in the past month and my gold subscription has run out - still not renewed it yet. As for new games, I have none really - I am planning to buy the Beatles Rock Band when it comes out within the next two weeks. Not so sure yet if I just want the game, the game with guitar or the full set since my GHWT drums are broken, the guitar is falling apart and the mic doesn't really pick up (Never sing anyway). I have still have a GH:Aerosmith guitar which works ok but I have used that so much it's also starting to fall apart. I am also eagerly waiting for Professor Layton 2 to come out on DS over here since it's already out in America. I might actually just order it on-line but I'm not sure yet since some of the puzzles are different from the US version to the EU version.

Not really much to report in real life except that I am having a good time at school with all my friends I was with during the summer and some of the one's I haven't seen since June. I have been playing some more MMQ (Massive Music Quiz) online and bet my high score, could have got a point higher if I just got the artist I never got in one of the songs (Damn t.A.T.u - See picture attached). Otherwise, I think I may go see that new Final Destination film in 3D (I have been told it's rubbish but the 3D effects are good) so I may give it a go with some friends. Last but not least, I am thinking of starting driving lessons soon since most of my friends have already started and I don't want to feel left out.

Damn t.A.T.u

Thanks for reading,

Chris.

Song 8) - Anyway you want it - Journey.

Im hooked on a music game :)

by on

Recently I have been hooked on a free online music quiz website entitled Massive Music Quiz. It's really fun and addicting, all you have to do is listen to a 30 second clip and guess the artist and the track title. You play fifteen songs and compete against other players for the top score that round. I recommend you should check it out.

Otherwise nothing much to blog about, sorry for being inactive but I have been doing some social things for a change. I am also thinking about buying a new computer and a Mac is a very considerable option. Well school starts back on Thursday but I don't know if I will be staying at school as there are quite a few options to consider if I leave. I will have to see how the first two days go and I will post another blog on the weekend or next week telling you my decision.

In other words, hope everyone is doing well. Take care, Chris.

The exam results are in!

by on

Really busy right now, about to leave for a mini part and I'm waiting for my shirt to dry a bit more before I iron it. I got my results through text, e-mail and letter this morning as I was really anxious so I just set them all to come. The mail came around half 10 but I got a text and an e-mail around half 8 so I was a bit delighted it came that early. Just so you know an Intermediate 2 course is lower than a Higher course but still contains aspects of the Higher course and the work is still fairly hard.

Higher Mathematics: A
Higher Physics: A (Very nice, I was predicted a B/C)
Higher Computing: B (I predicted an A but I'm not bothered)
Intermediate 2 Chemistry: A
Intermediate 2 English: B (Better than I expected)

Well, I basically did what I expected, I did expect my A in Physics even though I was predicted a B/C but I started to put the effort in to it after March time. Computing was a bit of a let down but the exam was fairly difficult and I felt I did rubbish in my coursework which is 30% of my final grade. English was a shock, I was certain I would fail or a C at best as I hated it the full year round. Well, I go back to school on the 20th for my final year ever!

I hope everyone else is doing great. Thanks,

Chris.

I could not be more bored! More news...

by on

Well as i'm sitting here posting this blog, I couldn't help to think to myself: "What I am doing, what have I accomplished over the summer". Honestly when I think to myself, since I finished the school year in early June - I have left my house probably less than 10 times overall. So what do I plan to do about this, most likely nothing as there's nothing really I can do except to drag my friends out everyday but they are all like me at home on their computer's or playing their games.

Well for some more new ands so this blog could become more boring, I seen the new Harry Potter film last week on the day of release, it was as good as I thought it would be. Not a lot of action and a lot of things were missed out/changed on making the translation from book to page but none the less - it's still very good. Today I went out and I bought some more dvd's and a new computer peripheral set - I bought a wireless keyboard & mouse and a new headset with a built in microphone. I was thinking of buying a new processor for cmy computer as it's getting rather old in it's day but then I would have to upgrade everything so I might splurge out again and buy a new PC (well just the desktop part anyway).

Not much gaming news in this blog, all I can say is that I bought N+ on the xbox live arcade and it's not bad but quite hard. Hopefully more gaming in news in a further blog to come.

Until next time and thanks for reading,

Chris.

Short July/Summer update!

by on

Well as I don't seem to post much blogs any more or even create any forum posts, I thought I may as well make a quick blog to let you know how I am getting along. Well school finished for me in the middle of June and my birthday was around there. I return to school for my final year possible in August (It's a brand new school - we were decanted to another school for two years while this one was getting built, so hopefully it should be a lot cleaner and better looking). If the school doesn't want to run the subjects I want to do (e.g. lack of people/teachers) then I will probably leave as there is nothing else I want to do.

I get my exam results through the post in early August so I am still awaiting the results, I don't think I done that bad but I just want to get the waiting over with. I have not really been playing any of my new games much (Prototype, Wolverine etc..) so I can't say much about them - They have been rather good so far. I also recently bought the Burnout Paradise: Big Surf Island which is rather good I must say but I have done most of it already so that game is starting to die down my list again (For anyone wanting to know, the new cars are good (A lot are toys), the mega jumps are great and the rest is ok). I also got Sonic 3 which I loved as a kid but it seems the XBLA was rushed together at the last minute as the game hasn't been properly emulated and the controls are really hard to master, the game also seems a lot harder but I am sure I will complete it.

Lately I have been on my computer, watching a lot of random Youtube videos, playing some free online games, listening to a lot of old music (mainly Michael Jackson) and talking to my assortment of friends on a free chatting program called Skype.

Thanks for reading,

Chris.

My Birthday ~ Came & Gone

by on

Well I plan to keep this blog short as I don't have much to write about. My birthday was on Saturday just there; me and my friends went out to the local town to get some stuff that I wanted. So far I got, another two seasons of South Park (TV Show), two Wii games (Carnival Games & Monkey Ball - Banana Blitz), two xbox games (Prototype & Xmen - Wolverine) and a component cable for my Wii. I still have some money left, I am thinking of using some money I already had and this money I may fork out and buy a BluRay DVD player. I have been thinking about getting one for a while.

So, how is everyone else doing?

Thanks for reading, Dj.
