  • Establish and perform to meet or exceed KPIs for audience acquisition, social following, effectiveness of social media efforts

  • Manage day-to-day relationship with GameSpot community

Mega Man Battle Network Now on Nintendo eShop

I saw this on Twitter today:

Nintendo goes on to call it "A futuristic cyber adventure starring Mega Man! In a future where everyone owns a personal exploration terminal--PET for short--convenience is at your fingertips. With PETs, humankind is connected to a network that allows instant communication and handling of every day needs. But with the latest upgrades, network viruses have also flourished."

Now, I can't help but look at this and be slightly bothered by this... When I think of getting a new Mega Man I think of getting something like this:

But instead I get this?

Have any of you played this style of Mega Man? Am I over reacting? Let me know what you think.

GameSpot Game Day

This idea has been kicked around by both moderators and volunteers for the past couple of days, but I figured I would extend the reach just a bit further into the spere of followers that happen to still read blogs (if they're still out there).

So how does a "GameSpot Game Day" sound to you? Would you be interested in playing? If so, which games should we do? Should we focus on one game or should a Game Day be a celebration of different games and types to help be more inclusive Share your thoughts in the comments below.

The Creators of Minecraft, Super Meat Boy, and Penny Arcade are making Magic Cards

During this years PAX East, Wizards of the coast announced that there would be a few new celebrity designers helping out with this years core set (called M15).

Here is the full list of designers, creators, and all around awesome folks who will be making cards for the latest set:

  • George Fan: designer of Plants vs Zombies
  • Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins: Gabe and Tycho, creators of Penny Arcade
  • Markus Persson: "Notch," creator of Minecraft and founder of Mojang
  • Richard Garriot: "Lord British," creator of the Ultima series
  • David Sirlin: designer on Super Street Figher II Turbo HD Remix, Yomi
  • Rob Pardo: chief creative officer at Blizzard, lead designer of World of Warcraft
  • Isaiah Cartwright: lead game designer for Guild Wars 2
  • Justin Gary: designer of Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer and Solforge
  • Stone Librande: lead designer at Riot Games, designer of Diablo 3, creative director of SimCity
  • Brian Fargo: founder and CEO of inXile Entertainment, director of Bard’s Tale, Wasteland, executive producer of Fallout
  • Mike Neumann: Gearbox Software, creative director on Borderlands
  • James Ernest: owner and lead designer for Cheapass Games, designer of Kill Doctor Lucky
  • Edmund McMillen: indie designer of Super Meat Boy, featured in Indie Game: The Movie
  • Brad Muir: game designer at Double Fine Productions leading Massive Chalice, project lead on Iron Brigade

So far, only George Fans' card has been revealed and it seems pretty awesome:

There's no telling what kinds of cards these fine folks will be creating, but I have high hopes that they'll be awesome additions to the next set rotation. I'm personally hoping that at least one of them designs a Planeswalker.

The Magic 2015 Core Set will feature 269 cards and releases on July 18th with prerelease events starting July 12th at a local game store near you.

I'm so excited, I haven't been in over 10 years. I can't wait to see just how much things have changed since the last time I went.

Tomb Raider: Dumb Ways to Die

This last week the gritty remake of Tomb Raider stumbled its way onto the list of free to download games from PlayStation Plus - [LINK], so of course this reminded me that it's currently sitting in my every growing pile of shame. Also, GameSpot had some pretty good things to say about the game [LINK].

So I got comfortable and readied myself for a night of adventure.

All and all so far I have enjoyed what I have experienced as far a game goes. Admittedly, this is the first Tomb Raider I can remember playing from the last decade or so. I of course gave the original game a spin and I'm sure those of you who remember playing it on the console probably remember just how hard it was to do even the most basic movements when you first sat down with the game.

Scaring-nostalgia and occasional awkward voice acting aside, I have been having fun. There is however one thing that still bothers me. What the hell is with these death scenes?

The TLDNR version of this rant is that I honestly don't feel like these scenes add anything to my play experience.

I mean, if you think about it for even half a moment you realize that there was someone (or even stranger, a team) who's job it was to come up with every gory, impaling, blood-squirting, smashing, ripping, painful cut-scene.

Further more, there is audio for each and every one of these. I can't help but wonder how much time, effort and money went into just these scenes. This of course adds to the concern of AAA vs. not AAA titles and where they decide to spend their money. It just makes me wonder, if Tomb Raider were a new game, fresh off the Indie-Cade, would they have even bothered trying to tell each gruesome end for our adventurer?

There have been a number of articles expressing disdain at the high levels of "torture porn" in the game. Now to be fair, I'm not inclined to go so far as to call it that, I mean really let's not be extremists…. But I do agree that at times it feels a bit over the top.

Okay… so maybe they're not too far off.

The point being, who among you feels that these scenes actually contributed anything of value to the game as a whole, and can you elaborate on your opinion.

Nintendo, It's not you... it's... well I guess it is you.

So I'd like to start off by saying that I do really love Nintendo, really.

Many of my "dream tattoo's" have been of symbols from it's franchises, my wallet looks like a classic NES controller. I desperately search flee markets and thrift stores for old games of theirs. So it pains me to say that I want them to change.

It's like telling someone you love that they'd be more awesome if they would just change this major facet about themselves. I can't help it, I wish I could just play their games on something other than a Wii U or a Wii. Perhaps it's because I don't want yet another console in the house. Or maybe it's because after a long day at work the last thing I want to do is any kind of wiggling.

I know my reasons are selfish but I can't help but think that it might be better for them if they just simply allowed others to publish their games. I can't even imagine how much money I would have spent on Nintendo titles if I could play them on Xbox or PlayStation consoles.

I guess I want them to change, but I don't want to lose what I remember them for... Change is scary.
