Hi all, I've started playing Halo3 again online in preperation for Reach and I'm trying to work out how one gets into a ranked match? am I being thick? It seems when I join Halo 3 it simply throws you into social games?? Also I wonder if someone could explain the rank progression with Halo 3, as in Gunnery Sergeant etc, it seems almost random? Do the Skill ratings and Rank Ratings run in tandem?? I'm confused lol

Hi, heres your best bet, I think it should just be console serial numbers but it may also require a number from within the console system settings/info>:

Hope that helps,

theres no physical reason to keep the old one no, just take down the console number and details etc.

well thats what i'm considering. If its possible to move everything over that would be great because I have so many DLC packs and live games that it would take forever to redownload them. But if its not possible or just too much hard work I will probably have to just live with doing it that way. Pro

no it is tied to both really, but if the content was downloaded once you can't download it to another machine without moving the license because they obvious dont want customers to have 2 active copies on seperate machines and don't want people to be able to install them multiple times.

of course you don't have to pay for them again, but if your using a new machine the license to use the DLC and Arcade titles etc must be swapped to your new xbox AND theres the added pain in the butt of having to download them all again. anyway thats not the issue here... can anyone tell me if my idea about imaging the harddrive will work in theory?? thanks

yeah but that will mean I have to buy multiple memory sticks which I'm not going to do, I'm trying to save money not spend more!! So I came across this:

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-connect-your-xbox-360-hard-drive-to-your-pc/

I have extensive experience using Acronis to take images of harddrives from both SATA and IDE drives, I have the software and a sata/ide - usb connector jobby. Is it possible for me to take a complete image of my current 120gb hdd then restore it onto the new 250gb one? I also know how to extend the partitions so that the difference between 120 and 250 wont go unused, using the dos prompt "Diskpart" this may solve my problem. Has anyone heard of this is possible at all?? I have the necessary equipment and software to get the 120gb hdd out of its case. any thoughts? is it possible my pc won't recognise the drive when its attached?? Cheers

If you bought your console from either Game or Gamestation just ask them to transfer your data onto your new hard drive in the shop, they did it for me, saves you wasting money on a tranfer kit

Shoot2kill1989

That will be the route I take, only if I actually can tho, your missing the main point of my question; I want to part ex my elite in against the 250gb kinect bundle around xmas time, currently they are offering £65 in trade which is an insult personally, so god knows how low the trade value of an elite bundle will be come xmas!! So I intend to SELL my Elite on ebay before buying the new 360 kinect bundle, so basically I wont have the old harddrive with me, it will be gone. So I need to be able to backup my files externally and someone told me it was possible.

To the poster before Shoot2Kill, thanks for the advice, however my pc harddrive is not that large, about 150gb so it would be a case of moving the data in packets/portions via my 8gb mem stick to my pc, then moving them back to the new 360 when it comes. I think I will just test it tonight on my current HDD, see if I can lift the data off and put it back on.

how do you mean non propriety?? I was planning to use my external hdd which runs on 2 usb cables and no external power. I have a mem stick with 8gb but doubt that will be enough. Could I put the data onto the stick THEN move it all to my PC?? I have a 120Gb hdd and its down to just under 70gb, so assuming 10-12 of that is system stuff I could in theory move game files downloads and anything else over via the stick in about 4 attempts. But please understand that when I do this I most likely wont have the old xbox with me so I want to back up everything from the old hdd before moving it to the new one. Can you move your data to a pc for storage? Will it still work after transferring to a mem stick then back to the 360? And I assume you can recover your xbox live account without the need to back up right? CHEERS

Yeah the rights were a pain for me because I got the RROD and they gave me a new machine, then when I tried to use the arcade games they wouldn't work so I had to transfer the licenses via the ms website.

On the question of transferring to a memory stick, does anyone know how it works? Can you literally just go into the memory section and transfer stuff simply by selecting copy?? Or is it more complicated?? And If I wanted, could I use an external Harddrive rather than a mem stick?? I don't know how much my save files will add up to but I would rather sell the old console at a good price on ebay (Maybe £130 ish quid including the wireless and headset and charger kits etc) instead of the rubbish price that Gamestation quoted yesterday of £65 in trade, I swear its robbery. They reckon the bundle will be £329 for the 360 250gb slim and kinect + Kinect adventures, so if I can sell my Elite for £130 I only have to find another £200.

Anyone able to explain the procedure? Also I have a USB harddrive that runs via 2 usb plugs and no external power source, would that work on my 360??
Cheers
