New Site, Back to Gaming! GTA Online = :) or :(

by on

So, after a wee bit with the new site, I'm liking the look of it. I've been a GS fan for years, but the new site is really a change for the better. It has the old stuff, plus its facelift is growing on me!

I liked GTA V. It's the first GTA storyline I've finished since San Andreas. The story was decent, and switching between the characters was a nice feeling. I didn't like the storyline as much as RDR or even L.A. Noire. Not really sure why, and I don't want to give any spoilers.

I really liked GTA Online. It was great to play with @Sidburn19 and @Dan_Lero. Unfortunately, my character's progress has been frozen since the 1.04 update. The Social Club lists me at 75% through Level 21, but every time I restart and regardless of progress, my character rests to just before Level 20. :( Hoping R* updates its support email about "RP and Cash resetting" soon.

Moving + PC Games Only for a While...

by on

Hey peeps!  In case you've been wondering where I've been, the answer is: getting ready for a move!  That's right, I'm moving from the Midwest to New York City this month!

Why?  Work + family.

So, all my stuff is packed and the only gaming I'll be able to do for at least 2 weeks is PC gaming.

I just got The Cat Lady from Indie Game Stand.  It's the first horror I'll try in a long while.  I'll keep you posted how scared it makes me!

Hoping the Steam Summer Sale rumors are true and that we see new sakes this afternoon!

What are y'all playing?

GoW: Judgment and L4D2 on Steam

by on

Been enjoying the small amount of time I've had to try Gears of War: Judgment (360).  Yes, it's a guilty pleasure game, but it's still fun!  I've only tried overrun and the capture the flag special event so far, but more Gears is still more Gears.

I also bought Left 4 Dead 2 on Steam and have been palying with the workshop mods to it.  How much fun are they?  I LOVE the Deathcraft Zombies, but also want to try the cat mod!

To the Moon = Awesome + My New Minecraft Obsession...

by on

I owe huge props to chicknfeet, whose recent recommendation of To the Moon (PC) led to one of the most moving game experiences of my adult life.  I do not want to give away the story, so please read about it and if you're interested, I encourage you to try it.  Its gameplay has a few weak spots, but they are easily overcome and everything else makes up for it.

I recently picked up the PC version of Minecraft.  Wow, is it different from the original XBLA release!  It also inspired me to get back into MC on Live with Yagr, chickn, and Sidburn.

My question for you is: do you know any good Minecraft Servers or maps?  What about mods?  I'm using the SphaxHDF textures, but would like a few others to choose from.

Cheap Gaming PC Get! Steam Recommendations?

by on

So I needed to buy a new personal PC, my first since 2006 since my employer has provided machines for me for a while.  I am looking forward to having a personal machine after such a long time.

It also means that I'll be getting a Steam account after wanting one for a long time...  There are so many PC exclusives I've missed over the years.  Can y'all recommend games I might have overlooked?

My current wishlist is:

  • Binding of Isaac
  • STALKER

Pretty short list, so I know I've missed a few.

I also went to see the Legend of Zelda Symphony of the Goddesses, which was incredible.  I have not played through the last 2 titles, and I really want to now.  That, combined with the recent arrival of Hyrule Historia makes me really nostalgic!

CD-i Get! Still Trucking: Gears 3, Red Dead Redemption, iPad Goodness!

by on

Hey all! Sorry it's been such a long time, but it's been a crazy summer. Let's see what I can remember about the last few months:

  • Got a "new" iPad and it's awesome. I've been playing a BUNCH of games on it, mostly freebies, but some standouts include Infinity Blade, Pocket Planes, Tiny Towers, and SongPop.

  • Continued my Gears of War 3 addiction. Gosh, I don't know why this game as such a hold on me, but I really enjoy it! I am still looking for folks to team up with for the DLC achievements, so add me as a friend on XBLive if you're interested (include that you're adding me for Gears and/or from GameSpot).

  • Bought the Game of the Year edition of Red Dead Redemption (360). Yes, I 100%ed the single player campaign shortly after it came out, but the multiplayer was glitching on me, so I traded it in. I'm going to try to get it to work now...but I was interrupted by the arrival of...

  • A brand used Philips CD-i! That's right, the huge, clunky console best known for its HORRIBLE Zelda games, which I now have all 3 of. Oh yes, Link: Faces of Evil, Zelda: Wand of Gamelon, and Zelda's Adventure, how I have longed for you for YEARS!

I bought the system refurbed and with a new timechip, so it should be all ready for years to come. I also got a boatload of games for it, but would love anyone's recommendation that owns/had one!

Minecraft - How Can it Really Be This Fun?

by on

I downloaded Minecraft initially because I wanted to try it and see what the hype was about. After playing through the tutorial myself last week, I didn't really understand what was so exciting. Also, I didn't like the idea of creepers, spiders, and zombies coming after me at night. I didn't know you could use a bed to sleep overnight. :)

I played far too many hours of Minecraft (360) last night with Yagr_Zero and chicknfeet. Playing with 3 people is a blast, especially since Yagr knew what was going on and what we might want/need to do. It's a lot of fun with a group of people, and I definitely recommend beginners that are confused to play with someone more experienced.

I also picked up Double Fine's Iron Brigade (360) last week when it was on sale. It's a lot of fun, but is also better with others. The humor is typical Double Fine, and the art style is incredible. Overall, it was a total steal at $7.50.

I will likely be cracking open Witcher 2 (360) very soon!

SSX and Dead Island - 2 Very Different Multiplayer Approaches

by on

After a too brief Spring Break, I'm back into gaming 100%. Lately my poisons of choice have been SSX (360) and Dead Island (360).

SSX has been a favorite of mine since the SSX Tricky (GC) and SSX 3 (PS2) days. Note that the platforms listed are those I owned the games on - they were available on others as well. There's something about starting at the top of a mountain and sailing down unfettered that is really enjoyable.

The new MP mode for SSX is interesting. At first I thought that not having splitscreen or real-time MP was going to suck, but it's actually pretty fun. Your XBLive friends who've played are listed as "rivals", and you get bonus points if you can beat their best times on certain maps. You also get to see their "ghosts" play, which means that as you complete a run, you can see the exact path they took to complete it. I thought it would be lame, but given the amount of time that my friends aren't online when I am, it's actually pretty fun.

Dead Island takes a completely different approach, where you need to be online at the same time as your MP buddies. That's ok, though, because the game is a blast. Yes, the story is tired. Yes, the enemies get repetitive and the graphics can slow down at times. However, beating the crap out of zombies is ALWAYS fun, especially when you add a friend!

Internet Woes Gone + New 360 Slim

by on

I'm still addicted to Gears of War 3 and, thanks to chicknfeet, now back into Left 4 Dead 2. Unfortunately, as many can attest, my internet connection has been spotty as of late. Turns out my modem had gone belly up and wasn't processing well. :(

While upgrading my modem, I figured it was time to upgrade my 360 as well. My older 360 had hundreds of hours of games and at least as many streaming media hours under its belt, so it was time. The new slim, with its sleek matte finish and 320GB hard drive will finally allow me to install a bunch of games that I like to switch between (Halo/L4D/Gears/Batman/Borderlands). 120GB was being chewed up rapidly with DLC like Borderlands and "arcade" games like the 4GB Gunstringer.

So, if we've tried to play online before and it hasn't worked, don't write me off just yet. :)

Gaming Away the Fall...

by on

It is a great time to be a gamer! There's an amazing stack of games in my "backlog" - Batman: Arkham City, Rayman Origins, Tintin, Sly Cooper HD, Halo: CE Anniversary, Assassin's Creed: Revelations...

I'm currently fighting my way through Skyrim, which I am liking as much as Fallout 3 (read: dangerously addictive). I still don't quite "get" it, because it's the first Elder Scrolls game I've put any time into and there's a lot of backstory that isn't quite clear to me.

The next thing I know I'll do, likely in the middle of my Skyrim fun, will be play through the Gears 3 RAAM's shadow DLC. Anyone else have it and want to play?
