I hate how typical people who say "we don't need another thread" or "we don't need to hear.." when they can simply ignore the thread instead of complaining about what I make my threads about. There are several other threads you could have clicked, but you chose this one.

RECON64bit

Sort of like those who don't want to pay for LIVE can simply just ignore it? When you simply could have ignored the 360 instead of purchasing it anyway then complaining about paying for LIVE? There are plenty of PS3's in stock you could have purchased, but you chose the 360.

Look, the time I got the 360 was a time it had titles that interested me more than the games on the PS3. Also the PS3 was too pricey for a game console, so I wasn't gonna get that. So I got myself a 360 arcade, and then got the harddrive once I decided to really invest in it, and buy stuff off the marketplace. So no I could not have just gotten the PS3 instead, I felt the systems were similar enough, but the 360 was cheaper. Made more sense to me.

Right and I can understand that, when the PS3 was a $600 BEAST. But still you don't have to pay for LIVE if you don't want to, I know you say you have invested to much into the 360 but if it bothered you that much you could trade it in and get a PS3. Like I said I have both and PSN cannot hold a candle to LIVE in my honest opinion. I know others will disagree but paying for LIVE is well worth it to me as it is to others. I don't mean to bash you but the simple fact remains that complaining about it isn't going to change anything, though I am sure you are just venting. When millions upon millions of gamers pay for LIVE and those numbers grow by the day then it is safe to say Microsoft won't be changing it anytime soon.

You should just embrace it and learn to love the features that make it worth paying for or you do have other options. Have you ever played a PS3 or on PSN? If not you should and you would see that the $60 for LIVE isn't really that bad(well you can get the subscription cards for $35-$40 online). Sure the idea of playing online for free sounds nice but I can tell you when I jump on to play MAG or Killzone 2, I instantly miss the features built into LIVE.

[QUOTE="AncientDozer"]I have a better question. Why do we need another thread? Every week we get one or two of these. It's getting tiresome to hear the same whiny arguments by people who, optimistically, have a 50% chance of actually owning a product rather than just pretending to give more weight to their moaning. I was ready to explain why it is some of us don't care but then it occurred to me. None of the people who don't like paying for Xbox Live want a reason. They don't care beyond griping and fussing. Beyond criticizing Microsoft. They aren't really looking for any kind of justification. No one ever does. It's just a means to slander. Listen to the arguments and then discard them.RECON64bit

Nobody is being forced to do anything. Did someone hold a gun to your head and make you choose the 360 over PS3? Why Microsoft charges is simple, Sony doesn't support PSN the way Microsoft supports LIVE and you get what you pay for. I have both and LIVE is light years beyond PSN. It only works out to a couple dollars a month but you people act like they charge $200 a year or something. Everyone is entitle to their own opinion and if yours is that LIVE isn't worth it then there are other options.

I personally love party chat, cross game chat and just the way everything is seamlessly built across the platform no matter what game your playing. It is much easier to communicate with friends and get together than it is on PSN. They also give the bi yearly dashboard updates that add features or improve features that gamers ask for and you can thank GOLD members and the fee they pay for them maintaining LIVE and the 360 the way they do. PSN is free and it shows, it isn't even close in neither quality nor features compared to LIVE. Yes online gaming is the most important feature and is free on PSN but for those of us that use the features LIVE has that PSN don't the fee is well worth it. Anyone can claim they are the same but anyone who has both knows this isn't true. I can't imagine anyone would buy a 360 without LIVE in mind. If the consensus on these forums is that PS3 has better exclusives and free online and you don't want to pay for LIVE then why get the 360 over the PS3 in the first place?

I must not be the only one to feel this way cause there are what? tens of millions of LIVE subscribers and more signing up every day? those millions outnumber the few hundred on these forums that bash LIVE for charging, but hey the happy people must just be rich, stupid or not real gamers right? Hell if Sony offered these features for the $50 instead of free mini games and demos I would gladly pay them too. I am a Plus subscriber and would trade the free content for LIVE like features in a heartbeat for the $50/year. But that is my opinion cause I don't ever play the free games and find them useless but I am sure there are people that do like it just like there are people that use the extra features of LIVE.

I know people complain about Xbox Live fees, but my #1 complaint is the "strictness" of Xbox Live. When you download a game or DLC from Xbox Live, it is linked to your harddrive (not to your XBL account). It didn't used to be this way, but Microsoft changed it to prevent people from popping out their hard drive and playing their DLC and games on a friend's system. Now, you can't do that anymore. However, this is a HUGE flaw: the new model of 360 has a built-in harddrive. So, if/when your system bites the dust, or if you upgrade from a 4 Gig to a bigger system, say bye bye to all of that DLC. Xbox Live has other "strictness" problems that countless developers have complained about in the past.Mrmccormo

It is linked to your console not the harddrive. You can go on xbox.com/drm and transfer the rights to any games to a new console. The new slim 360's harddrives are not built in, you can remove them and put them in other slim models even the 4GB model. The last I checked I could remove my harddrive and bring it to a friends house and do anything I could on my 360 as long as I was signed into my LIVE account for it to retrieve the media rights to the content from the LIVE servers. In order to use the content offline on another console you would have to transfer the rights. This is of course if you and your buddy have the same model 360 either both fat or both slim(different harddrives).

As far as your system biting the dust you have 3 options. 1) If your fat 360 bites it and you get a slim you can get a hard drive transfer kit then go to xbox.xom/drm, follow the instructions and all will be well. 2) If your slim bites the dust you can remove the hard driveand put it in the new one. If it is fixed through Microsoft they will take care of the media rights transfer for you or if you go through say a Best Buy warranty, they give you what you give them, so keep the hard drive when to go to the store and they will keep the hard drive from the new one. Then go to xbox.com/drm, follow instructions and your set. 3) If your completely SOL and have no hard drive to transfer period you can still recover your gamertag on the new console, go to xbox.com/drm, transfer the rights and then go to your download history and re download your stuff. It is a pain but you are never completely SOL and will never lose what you have purchased. As far as game saves though, those you would lose in this 3rd scenario unless you back them up on a usb flash drive which I wouldn't imagine a lot of people do.

I found it much easier going from my fat 360 to my slim 360 than it was going from my fat PS3 to the slim PS3. The PS3 has no transfer cable and when you move a hard drive from one to another the new system reformats the hard drive. You would also have to transfer game saves to a usb flash drive and re download everything from your download history in the PSN Store. So the PS3 isn't any easier.

Wii started the motion control movement but motion control seams to fizzle out once the initial wow factor wears off.

PS3 helped Blu-ray win the format war but seams to be used more for home theater than gaming in a lot of setups.

Xbox Live started the online movement, revolutionized it and is still king in that department. Online gaming is more valuable than motion controls and Blu-ray as far as the gaming industry is concerned. I know PS3 does it free and PC has done it before Xbox but because of Xbox it is more mainstream and no one does it better feature wise.

My vote goes to the 360.

On my 5th Xbox but that isn't a fair statement. My launch 360 RROD'd and was sent out for repair, I got impatient and went and bought an Elite for the HDMI output and just traded in the other 360 when I received it back from Microsoft. My Elite held strong for awhile but RROD'd on me 3 months ago so I sent it out to Microsoft and got it back 2 weeks later. I just received a 250GB slim and Kinect for christmas and gave my Elite to a friend. So I actually only had 2 360's die on me even though I am on my 5th. My slim is going strong but is only a month old but has froze up on me once.

My 40GB Phat PS3 died on me last year but through Best Buys warranty got my $400 back and was able to buy the new 250GB Slim model and a new 2year protection plan. My PS3 Slim is still going strong and has only froze up on me a handful of times.

My new 360 slim was bought through Best Buy with the protection plan cause I hated that I had to send out my last 2 Xbox's that were bought at Gamestop. I bought Gamestop's warranty but they said I had to send it to Microsoft for the RROD because of the 3 year extension on the specific RROD problem. My friends with Best Buy warranties got a new one same day but I had to wait so from now on all of my systems get purchased from Best Buy!!

I don't see the big deal it is like an interactive party chat where your avatar does what you do. You still have the option to Video Kinect Chat if you want a regular video chat session. This looks 10x better than Home, it will be much easier to interact like a true social environment when you can gesture and show some kind of emotion and with the built in mic easier to communicate. But is it like Home? The only appealing thing I could think of about Home would be it's like an interactive chat room where you could possibly meet new friends that like the same games you do. Is Avatar Kinect the same or is it a private thing between just you and friends?

Sure you can just go out to a bar and be social for real but look how popular aol chat rooms were at one point and people thought it was a great way to meet other people. So as corny as this may be it will appeal to some. And to answer an earlier question Yes you can have a Video Chat between PS3 systems via PSEye.

I have both and if I had to keep only one it would be my PS3 for these reasons. 1) Blu-ray player as well as games 2) PSN is free- I prefer LIVE 10 fold but PSN is free 3) SATA Hard Drives for cheap upgradeable memory, Doesn't have to be a Sony 4) Bluetooth, can use any headset doesn't have to be a Sony 5) Supports Netflix, Hulu, and Vudu Just gives you more in one for the money and does have better exclusives and the most popular franchises(CoD, Madden, etc) are on both systems However, I am a bigger online gamer and used my 360 and LIVE more than my PS3 and I personally have a blast with Kinect. The 360 also supports Netflix and has plenty of great features and games as well. But if I could only have one it would be a PS3 for the reasons above. Even though I do more gaming on my 360 the PS3 simply has more features I use for the same price and an option for free online.

RainbowSix 3...Vegas was great for single player but the cover system stunk for multi player...Give me back the lean and let me load 3 slots with frag grenades if I want...I also liked that all guns were fully auto and you had to feather the trigger to get single accurate shots...I also miss team survival with no respawns it made for more competitive type matches with more team play and strategy...best of all there was no unlockable weapons, everyone had the same exact choice of weapons off the bat it was all very balanced and simple...There were dedicated server options and you just chose your favorite guns and went to business. There weren't 10 classes, attachments, perks, nor kill streaks just simple pure competitive gameplay...I would gladly take an HD LIVE Arcade version please!!
