"It sounds like a dumbing-down, but it's truly liberating" -kotaku

Civilization V is here with some vast changes to it's UI and system.

Particularly, the Civic/Religion portion of the game was replaced with a series of talent trees called social policies.

Now some can argue that the social policies are "dumbed down" but after experiencing the system first hand, I can't see why anyone would want to go back. It's easier, as in, less annoying and stressful.

My only gripe with the social policies is that they don't conflict enough. You can pretty much adopt all tree's except for one or two. It would of also been nice if they split them up between domestic and foreign affairs.

All in all its a welcome change as it takes a backseat city development so I can focus on larger things.

Finally bought a 360 (again)

This is my third 360. I gave away my first one to a close friend and my second one got stolen while I was in Afghanistan. I initially wanted the 250GB bundle, but I jumped on this sweet Walmart deal before the holidays were over:

Xbox 360 Elite
Forza Motorsport 3
Lego Batman
Windows Media Remote
12 Months of XBL Gold
$50 Wal-mart Gift Card

Total: $377 (including tax/shipping)

So I guess you can say, I own all platforms now (though technically, the Wii belongs to my little bro)

Happy Holidays GS!

I usually spend my christmas either deployed overseas or in some bar getting lit up. But for the first time in a long time I'm home with my family unwrapping gifts the way they were meant to be opened. While it wasn't that exciting for me, I did enjpy watching my little brother get all the things that I never got when I was a kid. I didn't have much requests anyway, I kept my list relatively short. I asked for a new Wallet (my old one was too small for money, WTF?) a pair of Timberland boots and Uncharted 2 for PS3 (I hear its an ok game ;))All in all it was a good christmas!

Bought MW2...but why do I feel so dirty?

Its hard not to have some guilt being a PC owner with a copy of MW2. The $60 price tag, console inspired online and I think Steam just called me a conformist. Its mere existence goes against many principles that make PC gaming "elitist" I just hope MW2 doesn't become an example for other PC devs.

To cancel MW2 out, I also picked up a copy of Demon Souls (a console game lol). It was the last copy at my local Gamestop. Opened, yet I'm still playing full price. The clerk gave me attitude too, as if my concern wasn't plausible. I was skeptical about Demon souls til the very end, and boy was I wrong, This game is great. Though it doesn't feel much like a RPG, good thing my active imagination fills in the blanks.

Now, how am i supposed to juggle demon souls, MW2, DAO, holiday shopping, and thanksgiving?

Back on my grind

Got all my stuff back now I'm running Dragon Age maxed out and omg what a difference. I was seeing colors on characters I didn't even know they had. I also bought a new desk, which matches the same dark wood as my other furniture.

Almost bought an Xbox!

A day after hearing I would have to wait til the 30th for my PC/PS3. I immediately went to Amazon (cause I'm too lazy to go to the store) and ordered a $399 MW2 special edition Xbox 360 complete with 250GB HDD and extra controller. Well my laziness turned into a blessing because I got a phone call from my moving agency saying my stuff is here and will be at my house by monday. I believe my face was something like this:

I cancelled the Xbox. I wanted one for Forza, but I was playing Dragon Age on my laptop, but now that I can play it the way it was intended to be played on my desktop, I don't think a 360 would get much attention. Eventually, I'll buy one for Forza 3, hopefully I can still get a 250GB.

Unplugged and crying

I am done with my overseas Asia tour and settling in my new home in NYC. Problem is, I have too much stuff and had to get it all shipped, including my gaming PC and PS3. Well I'm home now. Wheres my stuff? What? It won't get here til Nov 30th?

Sure I'm in the Big city and theres tons of stuff to keep me busy, but this is Nov, the best month in gaming and have nothing by a low-end laptop to stay connected with it.
