A sort of "Grey Friday"

Well last year I went a bit crazy and bought games that I ended up not even playing so this year I went light, made a sort of "Grey Friday" and only bought Batman: Arkham Asylum for $28 from Amazon. I almost grabbed Gears of War 3 but figured I can borrow it from a friend eventually.

I also picked up a Limited Edition Zelda 3DS for cheap from Gamestop. Guess if you trade in your DS Lite you get $70 for it, Not a bad deal. Ended up paying $80 after a few other trade ins for the 3DS and Zelda 3D, pretty stoked on that.

Between Skyrim, Moder Warfare 3, and Deus Ex, I'll be pretty busy this holiday season before Batman even comes or I even get a chance to try out the 3DS.

Good times.

Damn you Black Friday....just growing the backlog! Also...won a Kinect..heh.

Gah, too many video game deals today! I've personally never gone out on Black Friday and in looking to carry on that tradition I sat at my computer this morning and picked up some of the better deals around. Here is what my wife bought me as a present (well I bought and told her she bought it as a present...haha):

360- Red Dead Redemption

360- Fable 3

360- Fallout:New Vegas

360- Star Wars Force Unleashed

PS3- Metal Gear Solid 4

All for a whopping $93.

Eff. My backlog just grew. Becuase of my time difference here I missed out on a few great $10 deals on Amazon like Infamous, Killzone 2, and Demon Souls. Probably for the best.

In other news, I won a 4gb 360 Kinect package from the Burger King online promotion thing seen here: https://bkkinect.bk.com/

Pretty cool, I've never won anything before so when it popped up that I was a winner (after two weeks of losing) I was pretty thrilled. Not sure what I'll do with the thing once it arrives though...guess I'll replace my old 360?

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and a solid Black Friday!

Finishing games...Arcania: Gothic 4...yawn

Does this thing still work? Haha...

Anywho, I picked up Arcania: Gothic 4 for 360 last Friday on a whim for $44 used at Gamestop. I hadn't read any reviews but the guy in the store told me it was "just like a mix of Fable 2 and Oblivion, only better" and touted that I had "the ability to make new weapons and potions". Sold.

Bring it home and after about 11 hours of playing I can officially say: THIS GAME SUCKS. The Gamespot review is dead on. The "ability to make new weapons and potions" is limited to finding scrolls and creating set pieces, blah. The fighting system plays like Fable 2 but that is where comparisons end. It is nothing like Oblivion.

I can't say that I've really enjoyed anything in the game. The story is bland (although the main character can be funny at times), the leveling is dull, graphics suck balls (clipping, slowdown, glitches, general bland areas), very little to do outside of the main story (which I will complete in about an hour), etc. I find myself biting my lip in frustration just trying to finish the damn game.

But why? Why would I waste another hour of my life trying to slug through a crappy game? I missed the "7 day return" policy on used games at Gamestop because I wanted to finish it. I want the game to redeem itself. I want to feel that I've validated at least 12 hours of my life playing this game. Alas, I think its all in nought. Oh well...

I should've figured something was up when the game came out Tuesday and it was 'used' by Friday...

I swore I'd never buy another 360 again...

Well after three deaths in the 360 family (2 RROD and 1 disk read problem) I finally got sick of Microsofts shoddy work in March 2008 and swore off the console...seemingly for good.

Not so much.

I was browsing on Amazon and noticed that they had a deal on buying Mass Effect 2 for like $45 and getting Mass Effect 1 for free. Dammit. The one game my computer can't handle that I want...no NEED... to play on the 360...and its on sale. So I bought it even though I didn't have a 360.

So tonight after I did all of my hunny-do's I slipped out of the house and bought a 360 from my local Gamestop. Going for cheapness I bought a Gamestop refurbished Arcade unit that has a build date of 2009, HDMI, and 256mb of internal memory and Fable 2 GOTY (another game that I missed and really wanted to play).

I get home, hook the console up via HDMI and start to play Fable 2. My wife asks why the thing is so loud...I shrug it off as usual 360 noises. I played about an hour, loving life, and then I hear...***CRRUUNNCHHH***CRRRUNNNCHHH***. Sure enough, the game freezes and it sounds like the disk is just spinning non-stop, crunching every few rotations like it got knocked off its spindle or something.

Dammit. Angry. I got all excited in my last blog posting some 360 games that I wanted to play and finally committed to buying another one and my cheapness got the best of me. So tomorrow I'll be returning this thing and trying to figure out my options. I'm hoping I can find a MS refurbished unit with a year warranty as this Gamestop unit only has a 30 day warranty. Maybe its just my paranoia but I refuse to pay top dollar for another 360 and hopefully this doesnt bite me in the ass....again.

I'm still alive...and not gaming...sad

Well, I'm still alive and kicking. I've just been training and working non-stop for the past six months...not much gaming going on (other than a few DS games and my gaming hit I did during Christmas). I recently made a huge move across country to paradise and am, again, without a console. There are a ton of things to do here, in addition to work, but its still bumming me out not being able to game in the evenings or when I have time, especially with all of the great games that came out over the past six to seven months that I've missed, plus a few that I missed prior to that. Not to mention all of the great games coming in the next few months.

I've been tempted numerous times to just go buy a duplicate console even though mine will be here my May but have instead spent money on yet another surfboard, even though five will be coming along with my console...hah.

So, for my recollection sake here are some of the games that I've missed that I need to play over summer once my console arrives:

PS3 - Final Fantasy XIII

PS3 - God of War III

PS3 - Heavy Rain

PS3 - Yakuza 3

PS3 - Tekken 6

PS3 - Just Cause 2

PS3 - Star Ocean

PS3 - Resonance of Fate

PS3 - Dragon Age: Awakening

360 - Borderlands

360 - Mass Effect 2

360 - Battlefield Bad Company 2

There are a bunch of other games I will probably play just for the fun of it that didn't make my "must play" list like Dante, Darksiders, etc. I did finish my first game of 2010, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, great game, and I've been working on Pokemon HeartGold and some crappy Chrystal Chronicles game for DS. Fortunatly those have helped keep me somewhat sane in this absence of gaming in my life.

Anywho, back to the grindstone and lets hope EB or Amazon has a buy 2 get 1 free or something soon so I can stock up for summer!

Home for the Holidays...lots of gaming to be done.

I'm back for the holidays for two weeks then its time to head back off for another six weeks of work! While my number one priority is to hang out with my wife, a distant second is to finish up some of my games while I'm home. I requested to get most of my presents early this year so I have something to do and here is what I've recieved so far:

PS3- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

PS3 - Assassins Creed 2

PS3 - Dragon Age: Origins

Blu Ray - Star Trek

Blu Ray - Inglorious Basterds

Blu Ray - District 9 (in the mail)

Blu Ray - Hangover

Plus I got a new video iPod and some clothing and stuff that I'll open up on Christmas day. I bought a bunch of great presents for my inlaws and wife, so I'm pretty stoked on that as well.

Uncharted 2

I had the opportunity over the past few days to sit down and finish up Uncharted 2 which I left at about 2 hours played back in October; such an amazing game. The new additions to the gameplay make it almost 100% better than the original plus more weapons is always a good thing. Instead of running and gunning from scene to scene, you actually have some variety that kept me hooked. The story wasn't as good as the first one in my opinion, but the graphics and environments were jaw dropping; the pure amount of detail in every scene just had me amazed the entire time. I finished the game on easy in about 9 hours and will probably be playing through it again on a harder difficulty to do some more exploring for those damn relics that I missed.

Moder Warfare 2

I beat the main campaign yesterday on normal in one sit down...probably took about 5 hours if I had to guess, kind of dissapointed in the length but the overall experience was damn good. The campaign had me sitting on the edge of my seat the entire time, its so frekin intense. I loved the variety of weapons given to you and how you didn't really have to play a certain scene in any one way, but the spawning enemies, sort of confusing story, and lack of cutscenes kind of pissed me off. I definetly plan on playing through the game again on a harder difficulty as I rarely died (usually of my own accord...running into battle, jumping in front of a truck, etc). I also look forward to playing some multi-player although everyone is saying certain aspects are bugged.

I'm now playing Assassins Creed 2 and haven't really been impressed yet as I was blown away by Uncharted 2 and still on an adrenaline rush from MW2. The graphics, while ok, just aren't Uncharted quality, and I get the feeling so far like I've been here and done this in Assassins 1. I've only played 2 hours, and I know the team added a bunch of new stuff and variety, so I'm going to stick it out if not only for story which is stacking up to be amazing. I also plan on starting Dragon Age today as my buddy said I can get through it in about 25 hours without doing any side stuff, so hopefully I can get that finished while I'm home.

Anywho, its good to be home for the holidays with family and friends and of course my PS3! Happy Holidays everyone!

I love Target's game clearance section!

Just grabbed:

Rainbow Six Vegas - PS3 - $7.48

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max - PSP - $3.74

GTA: Vice City Stories - PSP - $4.98

Plus I just finished up Mirrors Edge which I grabbed for $8 a few months ago from Target.

Other great deals I've gotten in the past year from the Target clearance shelf:

Fifa 2009 PSP $7

LocoRoco 2 PSP $2

Rock Band 2 PS3 $12

Rock Band "Band Bundle" (with all intstruments/game) PS3 $27

Kings Quest Collection PC $1

Tiger Woods 2009 PS3 $12

Wheelman PS3 $8

I'm sure that I've gotten a few other games for cheap in the past year but probably just gave them to friends as gifts. I also pass up a ton of games whenever I go in there and see stuff that I probably don't need (like Wanted for $12, Terminator for $12, X-Blades for $14, Riddick for $20, etc).

Check out your local Target to see what you can find!
