I believe that Nintendo owns the patent to the crosshair D-Pad.

 I think that the 360 controller is about as close to perfection as a joypad has come. It really is a joy to hold and use--try using it with a better game like Gears of War or Dead Rising and you'll see it's really well-made and well suited to many types of game.
