Common in every RPG, Fantasy Literature, show, or movie - The main character is the chosen one who is the only one that can stop the dragons / zombies / evil entity or nemesis / etc. RPGs would have better stories if they didn't follow this predictable path.

And further along that point - zombies. Every game must have them now, regardless of whether or not they fit. Survival games commit this gaming "sin" often. There's nothing wrong with having zombies if there's actually a point to having them. This is as opposed to, "This is a survival game, and zombies are a trope in survival games. Therefore, my game must have zombies!"

Finally, I hate how all FPS stories involve the one evil (usually Russian, because that makes so much sense) bad guy who wants to take over the world. It's as clever as asking people why the chicken crossed the road and expecting them to laugh.

COD is dead to me, so I really don't care. I haven't had fun with one since Modern Warfare 2, and I stopped buying them after Black Ops. I would prefer a game like COD4, but I know that's never going to happen.

I really don't think the two are comparable. The two games have different fan bases, so you're really going to get fans of each saying that their game is the best.

Just for fun or to blow off some steam, but mostly just to learn to play something new. I really don't care who wins or how good I do.

I totally agree that this one absolutely sucks. I really don't get why there are anime-looking characters in a Sonic game too? That series definitely took a strange turn.

@SOedipus: Pretty much this. I was annoyed that EA made Sim City online only. I don't know if they fixed that, but I never bought the game.

Also, games that have bad controls or a bad 3p camera.

@ibeeneasy: The company is 'NovaLogic,' and they've been in vaporware oblivion since 2009. They were supposed to come out with a new Delta Force game set in Venezuela, but then the company went bankrupt or something.

They also tried to sue Activision. It was strange.

Black Hawk Down was my favorite fps of all time, though.

Imo, the main problem with QTE is that they clash with the play style of certain games, and should not be in those games at all. Battlefield 3 comes to mind - one of the poorest implementation of QTE I've ever seen. For example, one of the QTE involved you climbing through a window, and fighting hand-to-hand with an enemy soldier. This is especially horrible in a Battlefield game - I was pretty shocked EA thought anyone would like this. Also, if you have your gun out, why would you need to engage in a QTE fighting sequence with someone rather than just shooting them? There's no logic to it at all.

If I'm playing BF, I want to be able to shoot enemies, fly my own plane, control my own tank, and blow crap up. I don't want to do karate moves to kill a bad guy, or be trapped in a plane I can't control to perform pointless QTE for 5 minutes. Again, absolutely terrible.

QTE should be kept in games that emphasize QTE as a game play mechanic. Usually, these games handle QTE in a logical way as to not totally ambush you with them or use them in a ridiculous situation. QTE should never occur in games where it would be ridiculous or unexpected for a QTE to occur.

What annoys me about some modern games is how everything is made to be obvious - storywise and gameplay wise. When I hear that the devs are "streamlining" a game, it usually means that they're doing this.

Take Skyrim, for example - everything about the plot and gameplay are completely obvious. Your task is to kill a dragon and save the world. Everything from start to finish is exactly what you expect, essentially leading to a forgettable dud of a story line. When meeting a character in the game, you already know all there is to know about them. "I work at the wood mill. Blah blah. I saw wolves nearby." Every NPC in Skyrim is boring and not worth talking to unless if you have to.

The opposite of this is Bioshock Infinite. Things are hidden from you for the whole game - especially with respect to the story. This is the type of storytelling I enjoy. Most of the main characters get your interest because you want to learn more about them. They have actual depth.
