@CarnageHeart: I am probably one of the few core gamers who is fond of the idea of motion controls. Sure are they ideal for games such as CoD? No. However, they can provide another medium in which to enjoy gaming. Gaming at its core is all about entertainment. Games for the Kinect can, have, provided some good entertainment and bad as well. Which is not entirely different from games using controllers.

Considering the difficulty in implementing such a technology in gaming, I have to tip my hat off to MS/Rare, in attempting innovation outside the paradigm.

I am not sure how much of the article you read or which demos you saw, but it seems like Rare has delivered a game that works well and is entertaining. I have played the Rivals jet ski game, off and on since launch. My impressions are that the kinect is definitely much more responsive. Not 110% perfect, but works well enough to provide a good entertainment value.

I'm not opposed to motion controls (they allowed wonderful things in LBP2), but I recognize their limitations and believe that due to those limitations, they are less than optimal for most game types/gamers. I think its likely that some of Project Spark's thousand (maybe millions) of players will will use the Kinect in interesting ways, but it doesn't seem like MS itself has big game changing plans for the peripheral.

A motion controlled sports themed minigame collection isn't an attempt to innovate, its an attempt to draw in the Wii Sports crowd. Whether or not that crowd is still into console games is open to question.

I'm fine with Rare's new direction. Frankly, their old games didn't sell well (MS gave them a lot of bites at the apple), so if the choice is between Kinect and unemployment, I don't blame them for choosing the Kinect.

The innovation is not in the "sports themed mini-game collection". The true innovation is in the developed technology used to drive the end user experience for the game. Rare, in the article linked, makes mention of the impact of the Kinects 2 technology in Rival Sports. The example given, was the ability of the new Kinect, to track wrist/joint movement in a user, in order to simulate the spin on a bowling ball. Thus simulating a real life experience for the end user.

@dvader654: VR is coming today! On a side note. Lead designer for Infamous: Second Son has left Sony.

1) Well Titanfall dropped about a week ago and the game has clearly lived up to the hype. Despite some of the criticism of the Xbox Ones power, or lack of, the console has the first must have game of this console generation. So what has the impact been?? According to Forbes, Xbox One sales jumped 96% in the U.K.

Here in the states we may have to wait for the NPD numbers to be released.

2) Looks like Minecraft will be getting the next gen treatment soon. And the Xbox One may be the first next gen console to get it.

"The Xbox One version of Minecraft should come earlier than the PlayStation 4 version, because it’s easier to port the game to the Xbox One’s architecture. And it’s already been ported to Xbox 360.

The next-gen versions are expected to include better visuals, bigger and better maps, and new modes.

They could include DirectX 12 technology, with high frames per second on 1080p resolution."

3) Much criticism has been directed at MS decision to bundle the Kinect 2.0 with every Xbox One. To date we have not seen many games take advantage of the new technology behind the device. According to a recent article in Forbes, the new Kinect Rivals "Will Silent The Critics". Click on the link below and make sure to check out the video demos of Rivals in action. Rivals launches in April.

4) Looks like Sony is not the only one seeing change. MS has just announced that Marc Whitten, Chief Product Officer of Xbox, has just left for a position at Sonos.

5) This should be an exciting week for the industry, as the GDC 2014 kicks off. With that MS has teased DirectX 12 for the Xbox One. So what does this mean for the Xbox One? We shall find out more on Thursday.

Famitsu review gave it a 38/40. I am still on the fence because of the price point and length of the game.

Infamous looks great. Those are some very impressive visuals. Infamous in my opinion looks like the best current gen game.

I have to say, I am really impressed how far Sony has come along with its online services. Offering a game rental service is a huge valued add.

Weird, i was under the impression it had more power. But because it uses DDR 5 and has a better GPU it's better? Is there something i am missing?

The PS4 does have a significantly better GPU and by significant I mean scientifically. There are 3rd party games that have better resolution on the PS4 but there are also a couple games coming out where the Xbox One version has matched the PS4 for 1080p 60 FPS. The Xbox One technically has more memory bandwidth but it's held within the ESRAM which devs are having trouble utilizing.

So it does have more graphical power but it seems like everything else is pretty much the same, which didn't seem to be the case before. The problem is Sony keeps shading over the truth and it's pissing people off.

The ESRAM bandwidth speeds are terribly misleading. ESRAM simply isn't a substitute for GDDR5 RAM. But it's main problem is the 32MB size. Apparently it's not big enough to fit 1080p with a decent AA solution.

But yeah, Sony hasn't been open about a lot of things, and people are starting to get sick of it. It's amazing to think that they still wont confirm which platform TLG is for. I mean the PS4 was announced over a year ago. Whats the need for secrecy?

This is true. Interestingly enough have read rumors of new SDK that will address some of the challenges with eSRAM. Should also be interesting how Direct X12 impacts the Xbox One. Hopefully we have a better idea after GDC.

Sony, not being open? Is anyone really surprised? They are the kings of hype and masters of pre-launch marketing, MS would be well served to hire some folks from Sonys marketing group.

Both next gen consoles are doing very well. Considering the 100 price difference, the Xbox One is hanging in there.
