Im a huge fan of the Lego games. I think they have gotten better with each release.....until now.
I found this game to be a huge clusterfark of messy controls, a convoluted if not, nonexistant story, and confusing layout. By adding voices to the characters it seems like the game lost its unique humor, or they did a horrible job trying to make the game funny. It just wasnt.
What was the purpose of the giant open world other than to make finding the next mission a pain in the arse. The map in the batcave was useless. Why did they have other villians on it? Was i supposed to do something with that information? It just didnt make any sense to me.
Half the time they left me with no idea what i was supposed to do next, unless it had to do with a special suit, then they just gave it to me the second i needed it. What is the point of a puzzle if the answer is given to you the instant you need it? It was one extreme or the other.
I wasnt into the way Superman was a cheesy douche and Batman hated him, while Robin had a crush on him. That was a lazy way to make their personalities.
I wish they would have brought in the other heros before the last mission. Even then, they were used so badly it made them feel like gimmicks instead of unique characters with powers that had a purpose.
I guess my main complaint was, i just didnt have nearly as much fun playing Batman 2 as I have had with other Lego games. It was full of new ideas that had a bunch of potential, but none of them were used in a way that added to the gameplay. Some even made gameplay more annoying.
I rented it from Gamefly with the intent to keep it to add to my collection of Lego games but i sent it back after one weekend. I completed story mode and was happy it was over. Not a feeling ive ever had before playing a Lego game. I guess i was just wondering if anyone else felt like this game was disappointing when compared to other Lego games.
Im looking forward to Lego Lord of the Rings and hoping it is better than Batman 2.
