The only thing that Ubisoft needs to "learn" from this, and what all game devs should learn, is DON'T capitulate to political mob outrage. Chances are, most of these aren't from people who actually play (and buy) the game. They just want to control the narrative and what other people are able to play.

And I do emphasize political outrage because game devs and publishers should absolutely take feedback from the community where it really matters; game design that impacts game balance, mechanics & functionality, character progression, economic fairness (monetization), or other things that can negatively hinder the player experience to complete a story or competing with other players.

There can be some arguments to be made about creative direction, but in something so subjective as that, each has to be weighed on its own merits. But this one... like I said, just political bias far as I'm concerned that doesn't warrant an apology or any "reparations".

@MarcioHuser: @orionreplay

Regardless of whether or not a lineage had to carry over all the way into the 21st century, from the perspective of the historical characters themselves that's irrelevant. They have no awareness of the technology that will exist millennia after their time for future descendants to connect to them via virtual memory replays. It's just about the reasons anyone else has; passing on a legacy into the world they know, for the sake of there being a future not just for their blood line but the people itself, for the culture to live on.

Altair, Ezio, and Conner didn't have children for the sake of scientists in the 21st century, they just wanted to ensure their own family & cultural survival for the foreseeable future of the world they knew... that and the baby making process itself be rewarding into itself ;)

BUT... those offended about this story element aren't complaining for the way it affects continuity, the series lore & canon, or for reasons of ancestry logic and consistency. No no no, the reason they're offended is because in their playbook heterosexuality is the most egregious of evils. It's not enough that sexual equality is brought into games, they see any presence of heterosexuality as "oppression", and no amount of practical reasoning or context (like bloodline continuity) will get in the way of that narrative. These are the kind of people who likely argue that binary sexuality is a "social construct" ffs.

I'm not defending carolyn's review, I can see some flaws in it. But it's hardly worth the kind of uproar it's getting, and especially not the petitions to get a reviewer fired. The gender bashing is even worse.

I am. because all the absurd protesting to get her fired is itself, a tragic joke.

Actually I think it's pathetic that people get so worked up over a review, especially a 9/10, that they rally to get someone fired. Even going so far as to sign online petitions. This of course isn't directed at you. But seriously, anybody that can't handle a dissenting opinion and taking it to "demanding" a reviewer gets fired... that kind of idiocy deserves to be mocked.

This just in, not only is Carolyn NOT getting fired, she's now been promoted to Chief editor of reviews. GS feels her insightful critiques are just what the site needs.
