Fallout 3 GOTY Impressions
I started playing the game a couple of days ago and out of the 6 games that I got (Need For Speed Shift, Fallout 3 GOTY, Resistance 2 Collector's Edition, Singstar, The Beatles Rockband and Call of Duty World at War) this is the one that I'm enjoying the most.
I had bad first impressions about RPGs since I watched some gameplay videos on the Internet and found out that animations were often not done properly, that the graphics weren't good and that the gameplay looked as if the game was boring.
But watching videos, especially for RPGs, tend not to show how good a game is.
My love affair with Fallout 3 started last week, when one of my friends found it in rebate at our local Staples store (which is impressive since usualy their prices are higher than anywhere else).
The original game was 7$ and the GOTY edition was 27$. Since I'm a fanatic of expansion packs, I decided to buy the GOTY.
I pop the game in my PS3, start the game and after finishing the three main quests I get out of Vault 101 and I got totally immersed in the apocalyptic world that is Washington DC Wastelands.
At first the game was pretty hard, but I've got a guide and it really helps (so get it if you have the game; it's almost a must-have). I checked in it and only then I realised how great the game really is! I knew it was an open-world sandbox game, but never I would have imagined to that extend!
I mean, it's a really big world and you can go almost anywhere! You can enter lots of buildings to find hidden weapons and there are new quests in the expansions. It is so complete and it is astonishing how much things are hidden and waiting to be discovered. It is really fun to search the land to discover new things.
I saw on a youtube video how to get a special laser gun (which is supposed to kill any enemies in 1 shot) and I went searching for it for at least an hour before I finally found it. As I was going to take it, one of the expansions took the lead and I was kidnapped by aliens (Mothership Zeta ;).
Now there are so many questions in my head.
What is going to happen next?
Will I finally be able to get this laser gun?
Will I return to earth changed and with exclusive guns?
Will I even be able to escape the d@mn ship?
And many more...
You see, I really like the exploration that the game has to offer and the choices I can make (i.e. decide to make Megaton explode or not), and it actually have a direct impact on the quests that will be available after it explodes. Since some persons will be dead, I won't be able to complete the quests that they had in store for me.
I can't wait to go in the underground metro and see what it's like, as well as visit some other locals. There are so many things I can do in this game; so many things to discover.
And that is what I like the most of the game. I'm going to play all of the expansions for sure and I'm going to be stuck playing Fallout 3 for a long time. I'm also going to be reading a lot, since the guide is 500 pages!!!
Too much games in my library
I don't know if it is the same thing for you, but I have too many games in my library. I've got some games more than a year ago and still haven't played them! I'm sure they are great but I always have that other great game (in this case Fallout 3) to get in the way of playing the other ones. I'm not saying this is bad, but I've got to game as much as I'm buying :P.
So what do you think of Fallout 3?
