Did you reset the router and reconnect your PS3? I was having similar trouble with Resistance, and I restarted my router (a Linksys), worked like a charm afterwards.
I have the same problem. Got the game today, and as soon as the first mission load, the game locks up and making this weird as hell noise. I will have to exchange this one.
