MS is pushing hard, but no it doesn't make me want to buy an XB1. Also, I think 2017 and maybe 2018 are going to be lean years for them. Be prepared for some more Halo/Forza/Gears milking.

Recore is the only 2016 title that I really like the look of so far from MS. The kid with the Beats just totally flattened any chance I will want to play Scalebound. I still can't believe that. Quantum Break and Crackdown 3 are possibilities. Halo, Gears and Forza do nothing for me, so until MS can really start to move on from constantly milking those titles, I don't see me getting excited about Xbox.

Another problem is Sony has a very good lineup next year too. No Man's Sky, Uncharted 4, Street Fighter 5, Hellblade, Ratchet and Clank, and Last Guardian. Add to that they have other titles coming beyond 2016 like Gran Turismo 7, Horizon, Dreams, Shenmue 3, Final Fantasy 7 remake. Theres strong rumors a God of War, Gravity Rush 2, and Last of Us 2 (or some other title from a second Naughty Dog team) are in the works.

Yet Phil specifically said he wants to diversify MS's first party games. So I don't understand your point with this "milking". And why would they release Halo and Gears when they already recently been released? Especially Gears next year...

Well they already are doing that with Forza. They are alternating Motorsport and Horizon every other year. They released Halo MCC last year, Halo 5 this year, and Halo Wars 2 next year. I find it hard to believe we will go longer than 2018 without another Halo game, if not 2017. Renaming Black Rock to Coalition implies they will be pumping out more Gears of War full time, probably for 2018 or 2019.

MS does not have as many first party studios as Sony does. If they are going to diversify the way Sony has been able to, they need acquire more first party studios and then allow current studios to move on to other things. Let 343 move on to something other than Halo. Let Turn 10 do something other than Forza Motorsport for their next game. Put Lionhead on something other than Fable. Then if they want to come back to those titles, they can give it to another capable studio while your top studios continue on with new IPs.

Sony lets most of their studios, at least the ones that want to, move on to new IPs. For example Naughty Dog went to Uncharted from Jak and Daxter, and now Uncharted 4 is said to be their last one. They will be moving on to Last of Us 2 and maybe a new IP. Guerrilla Games moved on to Horizon from Killzone.

Its not surprising to me at all. Xbox cooked itself, and now people have chosen PS4 as the first buy. Its also the system most people play multi platform games which is carrying PS right now until their exclusives start rolling again.

Even with the fall lineup Xbox put together, they did so during a fall that has one of the best 3rd party lineups i've seen. Black Ops 3, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, MGS V, Star Wars Battlefront, Rainbow Six Siege, Just Cause 3, Fallout 4, and more. Those 3rd party titles will probably outsell the Xbox exclusives on their own platform, so its not like PS4 owners would be left out in the cold until Uncharted comes.

I think that if the Bone fails to make the impact in NPD this year that it did last year, a strong case will be made by the Lems that the third party pulled Sony's ass out of the fire. Granted, I am speaking of the future in past tense and anything can happen between now and then. There are some real big games coming up, though, and no one anticipated that Fallout 4 would drop the same year it was announced.

Yeah they most definitely will. If there's a fall to be light on exclusives, it's this one. Add to that we now know Tomb Raider is coming to PS4 in Fall 2016, and probably a "definitive" edition at that. So that hoses down any urgency to get XB1 this fall unless you're a big fan of the usual Halo, Forza, Gears, and Fable.

Xbox isn't going to catch PS4. It's over. They are still losing NPD (North America), and that doesn't include the fact Sony has been destroying them in Europe and Japan. Just to break even worldwide on a month to month basis, they would have to dominate Sony on NPD. That's not even touching what they would have to do to close the gap.

All this despite the fact XB1 has been $50 cheaper for 9 months, and Sony still doesn't have their big exclusives out yet.

As for the future, MS does appear to be turning themselves around, but they do have people worried. Next year's lineup for them looks solid with Recore, Crackdown 3, Gears of War 4, Sea of Thieves, Quantum Break, Scalebound, Halo Wars 2, and probably Forza Horizon 3. But I've seen people wondering about the future beyond 2016. Only 343 and Turn 10 would even be able to put a game out by 2017. The studios making these 2016 games won't have anything more until 2018 at the earliest, if not 2019.

Meanwhile, Sony has No Man's Sky, Hellblade, Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, Street Fighter 5, and Last Guardian coming next year. We know Horzion from Guerilla Games and Dreams from Media Molecule is coming in either 2016 or 2017. We know Gran Turismo 7 is on the way from Polyphony Digital, probably 2017. We can assume a new God of War is on the way from Sony Santa Monica. Naughty Dog has a second team working on a title that most think is Last of Us 2. We have just seen from E3 that Shenmue 3 and Final Fantasy 7 remake are on the way, not likely until 2018 at the earliest. We know David Jaffe's new game is coming to PS4 either 2016 or in 2017.

Add to all that Sucker Punch (Infamous) and Evolution (DriveClub) will be moving on to new projects likely for 2017-2018 time frame. We also have not heard what the new projects are from Sony Bend and Quantic Dream. Some assume Sony Bend is working on Gravity Rush 2 for PS4. Also, I'm certain we will see a sequel to Order 1886 before this gen is up as well as possibly a sequel to Knack or another Killzone.

Sony has a lot more first party studios than MS, and they have gotten somewhat of a slow start to this gen. So they really have a lot they can bring for the last half of this gen. I think MS has pushed hard to right the ship, but it has left them spaced thin for after next year.

No, there's a lot more hurdles than just internet speeds. I think we are at least 2 console generations away from going all digital/streaming.

1) Hard drive space. If you want to download the game vs stream it, we are seeing this gen how much of a space hog these games are. 500GB sounds great until you realize Call of Duty and all its DLC will take 60GB or more of that.

2) Used games are still thriving. Unlike Music and movies, there's a thriving used game market in video games that is also subsidizing new games and consoles. People are trading in old games so they can afford new ones. The ones they don't want day one, they are getting used later on at much cheaper prices.

3) Pricing needs to be much better. PSN and XB Live pricing is terrible. They need to adapt a price model closer to what Steam does, with quarterly big sales like Steam.

@TigerSuperman: NPD =/= World

Just a reminder

No one said it was. America is just the most important of all markets.

It is for MS. If they don't dominate NA, they have no chance of beating Sony. Even then, they might not. PS3 caught 360 last gen while MS still firmly controlled NA.

I think Fall 2016 would be a good time for this game to show up. GT6 was sort of an in-between release. Yeah it existed, but they put it out on PS3 after PS4 launched. Many of their fans had moved on and weren't interested in going back. 2016 puts it in year 3 of this gen which is about right. It also gives Sony Uncharted 4 and GT7 to anchor what should be a great 2016 for them, and a good way to counter the fact MS has been pushing out Forza and Halo as often as possible.

It was also the Holiday season, the Xbox had more exclusives, and more bundles in November.

How about from then until April? Which you seem to have forgot about.

The PS4 started off higher, with initially XBox being more expensive, and the Kinectless SKu only doing minimal due to the reputation still not coming off, and it being recent. But since around that time, Xbox One has been increasing and the PS4 has been decreasing, Xbox One originally, was not increasing enough to offset the high PS4 was decreasing from, which is why it won in all the starting months of this year despite it still being $349.

Also, SO is not a system seller, Halo and TR have not been released yet, Forza 5 was a launch game.

The PS4 is not destroying XBox in NA, it's been struggling to beat the Xbox One away and they are still trading shots and still are close to each other. PS4 had 2 months of games Xbox one did not, and it still could not do much of anything. It still dropped./

It's amazing how people forget these things.

What they had was a $349 price point. DriveClub sold better than Forza Horizon 2 and Sunset Overdrive combined. Halo MCC was the only MS exclusive to move units. Other than that people were picking up Destiny, COD, and Assassin's Creed, just like on PS4.

And what about from then until April? MS we are still looking at a $349 price point that then got bundled in with Halo MCC. So again, MS needed the price to go back to $349 and Halo to come rescue them. What are they going to do when PS4 inevitably drops to $349 and actually start putting their own big sellers out? Is MS gonna drop to $299 and start putting out Halo every year?

I didn't say PS4 was destroying Xbox in NA. I said it was destroying Xbox period. PS4 is winning in Europe, Japan, and Asia by a much larger margin than Xbox is in NA. The only way for Xbox to so much as break even from week to week with PS4 is to utterly annihilate it in NA. I mean complete and total domination. That's exactly what PS4 is doing to Xbox eveywhere else.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised. After Sony has said their first party lineup is sparse for fall, and they haven't said much about what many of their studios are working on. It would be huge if this happened.

It'd be funny if they were about to wrap up their conference, then the Last Guardian developers come out and announce the game for fall acting as if it was 2011 and they aren't 4 years late. haha That would be bring down the house.
