I'm a kind of player who prefers action oriented games or FPS games but once in a while I don't mind being challenged on the intellectual level as well. Because let's face it... some action FPS games are just too linear even if they're entertaining.

I played Brain age and Brain academy and appreciated those games for the change of pace it provided me with. And then comes Professor Layton and the curious village.

The game is not played like an adventure game but rather as an interactive story like the old-school point-and-click adventure games but without action sequences. To go further in the story, you have to solve puzzles given by the town inhabitants or those you find when pointing the stylus at a particular object onscreen. Most are logical puzzles with minimal mathematical skills required. There's often a ''catch'' and sometimes the answer seems so obvious that you may actually give a wrong answer if you don't think twice about it. If you have trouble getting an answer, you can buy hints with the hint coins you uncover troughout the game, mostly found when pointing the stylus at suspicious object like wooden barrels that lay around or flower pots as examples.

All I can say in the end is if you think you're smart and wants to be put to the test, that game's for you. A puzzle-solving game wrapped in a beautifully crafted story and setting. Give it a try.
