Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time User Review
- Difficulty:
- Just Right
- Time Spent:
- 10 to 20 Hours
- The Bottom Line:
- "Just plain fun"
What the game lacks in depth, it more than makes up for in pure fun and beauty.
I had a blast puzzling out the acrobatic paths from A to B. The big environmental puzzles were logical and presented enough of a challenge to be fun, but not so much to make me run for the FAQ. The game featured the best mirror puzzle I've ever seen (the multi-floored one).
The combat wasn't very good, but it came in small doses and effectively broke up the exploratory parts into pleasurable chunks.
The save system and the time rewind mechanics ensured that I never got frustrated during play. Death meant a quick rewind, or a very short replay. Beyond the saves, the game even allowed spawning at various points between saves, should I have ever died.
The visions were a great mechanic in that they gave a quick preview of what to do before each portion, which helped me avoid confusion and stay off the walkthroughs.
In short, I loved the story, the look, the feel, and the gameplay of POP:SOT. The campaign was the right length (12 hours), and I had a blast the entire time.
