This is a review of Prince of Persia 3D for the PC.
Prince of Persia was a game that revolutionized the world back in 1989 for realistic gameplay and lifelike animation. Now I have the 3rd game in the series which was released in 1999. Suffice to say that it was released before the game got through bug detection stage and so a buggy port of the game was on sale.

The Story begins as the titular Prince of Persia has just wed the beautiful Princess. As they arrive at King Assan's party (as you noticed, Assan is the Sultan's brother) the seductive belly dancer kills the Prince's personal bodyguards and the Prince gets thrown into the dungeons while the Princess is locked in a chamber inside the palace. Now the Prince has to escape his captors and rescue his fair maiden but there is a sinister pact that threatens the existence of the two lovers and the worse: the kingdom of Persia

The Controls are a mite awkward at first. First, the default control scheme is keyboard only (no mouse). Also, the game's character responds realisticly e.g: he has to pick up speed before he can run fast much like if you were running in the olympics. You use the arrow keys (or numpad) to move, turn or move back. You use the alt key to jump, hold shift and direction to walk and Space bar is to draw your weapon. For combat you use the arrows to move, forward, back or sidestep (double tap to dash). You use the A key to attack left, S to block, W to Attack overhead and D to attack right. You can also control the camera by holding enter and using the arrows or numpad.

The Music has a soothing meledy while playing although it does get repedetive. The SFX are okay but seem a little used. On the other hand, the combat music is pretty cool.

The Graphics are very good for the level design as they look realistic. As for the character models....... meh, okay but nothing interesting

The Gameplay is basicly Prince of Persia in a 3D environment. You can pretty much go wherever you want. The most interesting thing about this game is that the gameplay aside from the 3D graphics and things hasn't changed. You are the Prince who has to navigate his way through traps, chasims and solve puzzles. There are many different levels and variety of puzzles so you never feel the game gets repetitious. The Combat is epic and dynamic. You only fight one enemy at a time but the combat looks so realistic that you might think the developers put alot of effort into the combat as well as the platforming. There is alot of strategy in combat e.g: what weapon I should use to fight the enemy, should I back off and strike later etc. There are lots of weapons to choose from which is good but since because of the game's one way through style, you're not gonna use them much which is just crap in my opinion.

The Downsides were that the game could've had more exploration to make it a little interesting. Also the game needs Quick Time 4.0 to work for the cutscenes and if you use the new version, the game simply crashes which was like ARRRRRRRRRRGH!!!! WORK ALREADY!!! Another downside is that it needs to run on Windows 98 to work, forcing me to change the compabillty mode and thus starting my Dad's hatred of PC games.

Prince of Persia 3D is one of those games that needs improvements. Let's overview the facts shall we?

The Good: Good gameplay into 3D, Strategy in Swordfighting is fun and satifying, interesting level design that makes you wanna play from start to finish, good diversity of weapons and levels, variety of enemies to keep up the challenge, minimum system requirements

The Bad: Little more exploration should be nice, one more mode coulda been nice to give the game some replayabiliy, Camera is an extreme pain!

The Ugly: Needs Quick Time 4.0 only to work, needs compability mode to work, tons of glitches (more than Melee), this game started my Dad's hatred of PC games

Title: A Good game but not enough oomph!
