A Good Old-Fashioned FPS In Homage To The PC FPS Era Hits The Next Gen Consoles

User Rating: 7.5 | Prey (Collector's Edition) X360
Prey was released in 2006, being one of the first titles released with in the Xbox 360 and showed the graphical power of the console. The HD graphics of the game really took gamers by surprise especially since this was the Next Generation console, after the PS2 and Xbox Original consoles.
Prey is simple in premise, it plays like a classic First-Person Shooter like Half-Life back on the PC.

You are Tommy, a Native-American who with his girlfriend Jen and his grandfather Enisi are transported up to an alien mother ship above the Earth following a surprise invasion of the planet.
You are freed by another human survivor on board the mother ship, and here on starts your mission to escape the ship with your family and lover. Prey begins like any FPS, finding your first few weapons that you use to get from the prison areas of the ship to the control rooms.

Prey has some very interesting enemies, and all of the weapons you use are in fact living weapons used by the aliens. From a living, breathing plasma rifle to insects you throw as grenades that explode on impact.
There are a few features to Prey, that made it stand out from the rest of the FPS games released on the Xbox 360 at the time.
Tommy as a Native American, can Spirit Walk around the spaceship and find certain areas off limits by normal travel, and even gravity can be manipulated so you can walk on walls and ceilings to out outmaneuver your enemies.

The Good:

- A graphical triumph at the time of release, with HD graphics and game play for the new Xbox 360.
- A good old fashioned FPS, follows the same rules and plays well.
- A good selection of weapons to utilize, with secondary fire.
- Spirit Walk and manipulating gravity changes the game entirely, making fire fights more fun and interesting.

The Bad:

- It is nothing new on the FPS genre, just brand new graphics and game play on a new console.
- Sometimes the firefights can get boring, and repetitive.

Prey is for those hardcore FPS fans, those wanting a good bit of run-and-gun game play. It can be found in most game shops or stores pre-owned, for £3 and upwards which is a great price for a fun title as Prey is.
