Everything about Portal 2 makes it a great game. I just wish there was more to do...

User Rating: 8.5 | Portal 2 PS3
Portal 2 is the sequel to a min-game of sorts that was included with Half-Life 2 a few years ago. To be honest, when I first heard about this game, I wasn't expecting much. The original game was fun, but it was also very short, and I didn't think they could make it into a full-fledged game. Luckily I was proven wrong, and Portal 2 contains two full-length stories for single and multiplayer that are both fun and engaging.

GAMEPLAY - This game is based all around a gun known as the portal gun. With it, you can create portals that have both an entrance and exit to them. This combined with using blocks, gels, turrents, and other tools helps you to solve puzzles and progress through the game. At times this game can become a little tedious and/or monotonous, but luckily there are a few little sections thrown in to break up all the puzzle-solving. There are also two complete stories for single player and multiplayer. I just wish there was more to this game once those are over with. It would have been nice to see a level editor or something added in here. Still, this game doesn't do much, but what it does, it excels greatly in. - 9/10

STORY - If you've played the first game, you will recognize the two main characters who make their return here. I really don't want to spoil anything about the story, but needless to say, it's actually very compelling and in many ways surpasses the stories provided in 80% of the other games out there...despite the fact that you don't do anything but solve puzzles here. - 8.5/10

GRAPHICS - The graphics are great here. While there isn't a lot of variety in the environments, what there is here looks great. - 8.5/10

SOUND - The music and sound effects are fine, but this game really shines with its voice-acting. The three main voice-actors here are absolutely awesome. I don't think the dialogue could have been any better here. - 9.5/10

LENGTH/REPLAY VALUE - Both stories are fairly lengthy, but unfortunately once this game is over with, there isn't really any reason to play again unless you want trophies. Some may want to go back through and play this again, but I just can't see myself doing so. This is the one area this game fails the most in. - 6/10

BOTTOM LINE - Portal 2 doesn't do much, but what it does, it does magnificently. The puzzles usually pose a challenge, the voice-acting is top notch, and the story is as good as you'll find in modern gaming. I just wish there was a reason to go back and play once the single player and multiplayer stories are finished. Like I said earlier, it would have been cool to have included a level editor or something. But as it is, Portal 2 is one of the best games to come out this year, and while it may not give you much of a reason to relive the game again, it's a great time while it lasts. - 8.5/10
