Populous set Bullfrog and Peter Molyneux on the road to gaming superstardom. It is an extremely witty, clever game that becomes highly addictive as you take on just one more level. And then one more. And one more. Ad infinitum. Starting with just a few followers, you must wield your godly powers to grow your flock into a powerhouse in order to beat your opponent in the final battle each level. There are a number of miracles at your disposal, including ground shaking earthquakes, rains of fire, and deadly quicksand. While the landscape changes between levels does affect play somewhat, it doesn't prevent the game from becoming repetitive after the first 50 or so levels. But it does remain a hoot to play, and it was a fairly early adopter of online play which kept things fresh. This one is rightfully considered an all-time classic.
