I agree. Pokemon is kind of its own genre, so you can't really change it (although I suppose technically it's an RPG). Besides, they have enough spinoff titles, like coliseum, conquest, mystery dungeon, etc. to keep the pokemon universe diverse. I don't exactly know what it is that people want to change about the main Pokemon series? I think they make just the right amount of innovation with each new generation.
All of that being said, I'm extremely excited for Pokemon X Y.
I love spaghetti and meatballs. Pokemon is like spaghetti and meatballs to me. I know exactly what I'm getting and I love it. I do appreaciate the subtle evolution of the game series (mainly, better graphics in each generation), but if GameFreak was to change the core mechanics of catching and collecting Pokemon and battling your way to become the Champion, the games would become something else. It's not spaghetti and meatballs anymore. It would be asparagus soup. And when I'm hungry for spaghetti and meatballs, I do not want to have a plate of asparagus soup instead.
I don't understand why people have to gripe about the Pokemon games not reforming enough. For gawd's sake, it's spaghetti and meatballs. Don't like it, don't buy it. There's plenty of other things to choose from. I don't want you putting asparagus into my spgahetti.
But it's funny that these same (?) people who gripe about all new Pokemon games being a rehash of the same old game also complain whenever there's new Pokemon's introduced. "This one sucks." "This looks stoopid." "I don't like it." "Originals were better." WTF is wrong with you people?? When GameFreak actually goes out and tries to give you something new and fresh, you complain about that too? I love Pokemon just as it is, but even I wouldn't want to play through dozens of games with always the same Pokemon. I actually look forward to new species everytime there's a new game coming out.
Well now that they are moving on to 3D I think they expand the player mechnics even more so than the gameplay alone. They could increase player to NPC interactions or create some kind of socializing system for the player to make the enviroment more life like instead of just everyone ignoring you... they could go the personal route.
