It is true that they really went back to basics with this one. However, we still do not know the full details of Team Flare as most of the game has yet to be revealed. As for their appearance, they have that Men in Black feel to it (Men in Red actually), leaving me feeling like they might be a secret organization like them. The motive of them purely making money is from one line of dialog that we have seen. If that is merely all they are then yes, stale. But hopefully, and I say hopefully, their true purpose is much greater than has been revealed to us. They kept many things from us this far, can't quite say we know the whole story yet.
Back to the basics sounds boring considering what they were and what the limits of an E rated game give you... pokemon B&W were the first games to really give me a thrilling story that actually made me care about the prologue. People need to get over their nostalgia and allow the potential stories to grow in depth. Since story is all pokemon is mainly about then I'd hope they'd gradually go as deep as atlus and give us stories where we can reflect on them or remember the significant parts of it. Generic villains with generic Ambitions just don't cut it anymore. So far Team flare looks so forgettable.
