The little things really make an impact.

Pokemon HG/SS versions are by far one of the best remake Pokemon games to date. Pokemon HG/SS takes the role of another nameless trainer in the Johto region. While HG/SS still holds down the normal turn-based type combat, the little changes really make these games stick out as individuals.

Like always, you start off with an introduction from Prof. Oak. He gives you a very vague description of the world of Pokemon and how they are used, caught, and etc. After a brief introduction scene, you jump right into the game. Following the same formula as all the other Pokemon games, you get to pick one of three different starters. There is Chikorita, the grass Pokemon. Cyndaquil, the fire Pokemon. And last but not least Totodile, the water Pokemon.

Soon enough you'll be ready to go explore Johto with your brand new Pokemon. A neat new feature in HG/SS is that the first Pokemon in your party will follow you around just like how Pikachu follows Ash around in the T.V. show. On your way to your first gym you'll run into tons of wild Pokemon to help train your own Pokemon. It is highly recommended that you fight most of the trainers and wild Pokemon that you run into so that you get the most possible EXP.

A new feature in HG/SS is that after you beat the eight gym leaders and the Elite Four, you can travel back to Kanto to earn yourself eight more badges. Kanto is the first region from the original games Red and Blue. This feels like another game all in itself and it is a fantastic addition.

Just like all the other Pokemon games, the plot isn't very creative. Your goal is to stop the evil origination Team Rocket from yet another crazy adventure. The story lacks creativity and usually leaves the player just rapidly pressing the "A" button to skip the dialog and get on with the gameplay.

Thankfully the lack of a good story is easily forgiven by the good consistent gameplay and loads of Pokemon to catch. With 493 Pokemon to catch, trade, and aquire via Wi-Fi Pokemon HG/SS will keep you playing for hours on end.

Positives:
+ First Pokemon in your party follows you around.
+ Loads of Pokemon to collect.
+ 16 total badges.
+ Pokewalker brings your adventure with you.

Negatives:
- Recycled.
- Shallow story.
